Following a narrow loss to Louisville last season, NC State looks poised to reclaim the conference title previously won six straight years from 2015 through 2020, particularly after an impressive effort in the 200 freestyle when the Wolfpack finished 1-2 and had five swimmers competing in the A-final.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0Virginia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Youssef Ramadan<\/strong> crushed a 44.08 in the men&#8217;s 100 fly to improve to fourth all-time in the event and set the fastest time in the nation so far this collegiate season. The team of\u00a0<strong>Mitchell Whyte<\/strong> (20.94),\u00a0<strong>Evgenii Somov<\/strong> (22.85),\u00a0<strong>Dalton Lowe\u00a0<\/strong>(19.50) and\u00a0<strong>Abdelrahman Elaraby<\/strong> (18.55) captured the victory in 1:21.84, taking down the ACC record of 1:22.11 that Louisville set on the way to a victory in the event at last year&#8217;s NCAA Championships. The time was also fastest in the country this season.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville had a strong lead entering the anchor leg, but Elaraby had to work hard to hold off charging NC State freshman <strong>David Curtiss<\/strong>. However, NC State was disqualified from the event because of a false start by Curtiss, so Louisville was the top team officially by almost a second.<\/p>\n<p>Following the DQ, Virginia Tech&#8217;s <strong>Philip Manoff<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Carles Coll Marti<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Antoni Ivanov<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Youssef Ramadan<\/strong> ended up in second place in 1:22.82, with Ramadan anchoring in 18.53. Sos won in 3:41.77, improving to sixth in the national rankings for this season. Louisville is now two-for-two in victories on the night after the Cardinals&#8217; earlier medley relay win, but NC State still leads by more than 120 points in the standings.<\/p>\n<p>Second place went to Virginia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Filippo Dal Maso<\/strong> in 3:42.67 as he surged ahead of Moore on the freestyle leg. He clocked a time of 44.08, eclipsing the 44.41 that <strong>Luca Urlando<\/strong> swam earlier in the evening at the SEC Championships, and Ramadan also broke his own ACC record of 44.32 set last season.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Ramadan moved to fourth all-time in the event. Only <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Joseph Schooling<\/strong> and <strong>Tom Shields<\/strong> have ever been quicker. Ramadan is now the fastest active swimmer in the college ranks, and his time even beat the 44.25 that <strong>Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> swam for the victory in the event at last year&#8217;s NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Virginia Tech completed the 1-2 finish as\u00a0<strong>Antoni Ivanov<\/strong> in 44.73, just ahead of Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nick Albiero<\/strong> in 44.79.\u00a0<strong>Nyls Korstanje<\/strong> finished a close fourth in 44.82. Junior\u00a0<strong>Hunter Tapp<\/strong>, who swam for the United States at the Short Course World Championships in December, had the lead with 50 yards to go, but sophomore\u00a0<strong>Luke Miller\u00a0<\/strong>split 23.69 on the final two lengths to come from behind and take the win. Miller touched in 1:32.46, while Tapp placed second in 1:32.72 to cement the 1-2 finish.
