{"id":497003,"date":"2022-02-12T22:07:49","date_gmt":"2022-02-13T05:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=497003"},"modified":"2022-02-12T22:07:49","modified_gmt":"2022-02-13T05:07:49","slug":"usc-set-eight-pool-records-ucla-re-writes-relay-marks-in-crosstown-showdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-set-eight-pool-records-ucla-re-writes-relay-marks-in-crosstown-showdown\/","title":{"rendered":"USC Set Eight Pool Records, UCLA Re-Writes Relay Marks in Crosstown Showdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>USC Set Eight Pool Records, UCLA Re-Writes Relay Marks in Crosstown Showdown<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USC\u2019s women\u2019s swimming and diving team set eight Spieker Aquatics Center records and claimed a 242-130 win over rival UCLA at a two-day dual meet Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Coupled with <a href=\"https:\/\/uclabruins.com\/news\/2022\/2\/12\/swimming-diving-bruins-set-pair-of-school-records-in-usc-dual.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a pair of school records for UCLA<\/a>, it was a fast weekend all around in the battle of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Both programs made history in the medley relays. For USC, that meant a pair of wins in pool-record times. <strong>Calypso Sheridan, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado<\/strong> and <strong>Laticia-Leigh Transom<\/strong> etched their name on the record board in the 400 medley relay (3:29.07), the 200 medley relay (1:35.32) and they added the 200 free relay (1:28.75).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/pac-12-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pac-12 Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UCLA was second in both the medley relays to set program records. <strong>Sophia Kosturos, Eva Carlson, Sam Baron<\/strong> and <strong>Claire Grover<\/strong> went 3:33.17 in the 400 medley and \u2013 with <strong>Gabby Dang<\/strong> in for Baron in fly \u2013 1:36.72 in the 200 medley.<\/p>\n<p>Three-quarters of the USC\u2019s relay quartet found individual records <a href=\"https:\/\/usctrojans.com\/news\/2022\/2\/11\/womens-swimming-diving-trojans-claim-eight-events-set-five-pool-records-during-first-day-of-ucla-swim-dive-dual.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the meet<\/a>. Transom led the way, winning the 200 free in a pool record of 1:43.10 and the 100 free in 47.62. Dobler went 58.09 to set the mark in the 100 breaststroke. Sheridan clocked in at 2:07.18 to set the 200 breast pool mark <a href=\"https:\/\/usctrojans.com\/news\/2022\/2\/12\/womens-swimming-diving-trojans-win-7-races-set-three-pool-records-as-no-11-usc-downs-ucla-242-130.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/usctrojans.com\/documents\/2022\/2\/12\/ucla_vs_usc_all.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Breaststroke is where USC did most of its damage, sweeping the podium spots at both distances. <strong>Isabelle Odgers<\/strong> was second in both events and won the 200 individual medley. <strong>Nicole Pavlopoulou<\/strong> finished second in the 200 IM, third in the 100 breast and third in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p>The Trojans also dominated backstroke with the Canadian duo of <strong>Jade Hannah<\/strong> and <strong>Aela Janvier<\/strong> going 1-2 at both distances. Hannah won the 100 in 53.44, beating her teammate by .01 seconds, and the 200 in 1:54.22.<\/p>\n<p>The eighth pool record for USC came from freshman <strong>Caroline Pennington,<\/strong> who went 16:00.73 to win the 1,650 free. Second in that event was <strong>Marlene Kahler,<\/strong> who got the better of Pennington in the 500 free. USC won two diving events, with <strong>Madison Huitt<\/strong> claiming the 3-meter springboard and platform.<\/p>\n<p>UCLA hung tough on the opening day with wins from Baron in the 200 fly and Grover in the 50 free. Dang won the 100 fly on Saturday. <strong>Paige Maceachern<\/strong> and <strong>Ella Kirshke<\/strong> went 1-2 in the 400 IM. <strong>Hanna Butler<\/strong> posted the top score in 1-meter diving
