{"id":496724,"date":"2022-02-08T22:35:23","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T05:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=496724"},"modified":"2022-02-08T22:35:23","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T05:35:23","slug":"sam-tornqvist-leads-three-virginia-tech-acc-weekly-honors-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sam-tornqvist-leads-three-virginia-tech-acc-weekly-honors-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"Sam Tornqvist Leads Three Virginia Tech ACC Weekly Honors Winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sam Tornqvist Leads Three Virginia Tech ACC Weekly Honors Winners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sam Tornqvist<\/strong> was one of three Virginia Tech athletes named in the ACC Weekly Honors, <a href=\"https:\/\/theacc.com\/news\/2022\/2\/8\/athlete-awards-acc-names-swimming-diving-performers-of-the-week.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tornqvist, the men\u2019s swimmer of the week, is joined by both divers of the week, <strong>Noah Zawadzki<\/strong> for the men and <strong>Teagan Moravek<\/strong> for the women. <strong>Rebecca Moynihan<\/strong> of Florida State is the women\u2019s swimmer of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Tornqvist posted three NCAA B cut times at the Virginia Tech Invitational this weekend. He won the 100 backstroke in 45.89 seconds, the 200 back in 1:40.66 and the 200 individual medley in 1:45.31. The graduate student from Sweden also swam backstroke on a pair of victorious medley relays.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Moynihan helped Florida State automatically qualify its 200 medley relay for the NCAA Championships <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/auburn-men-florida-state-women-earn-ncaa-a-cuts-at-auburn-invitational\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the Auburn Invitational<\/a>. That squad went 1:36.39 to get underneath the A standard for the first Seminoles relay berth at NCAAs since 2019. The senior from New Zealand also helped the Seminoles improve their 200 free relay B cut. She added a B cut in the 50 freestyle (22.60) among three individual B cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Zawadzki broke Va Tech\u2019s pool and school records at the Virginia Tech Invitational with his 1-meter score of 426.75 points. It\u2019s the highest score in the ACC this season. It also earns the senior his third ACC Diver of the Week honor.<\/p>\n<p>Moravek is recognized in the weekly honors for the second time.
