{"id":496669,"date":"2022-02-08T07:58:07","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T14:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=496669"},"modified":"2022-02-08T07:58:07","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T14:58:07","slug":"fluidra-commits-100000-to-step-into-swim-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fluidra-commits-100000-to-step-into-swim-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Fluidra Commits $100,000 to Step Into Swim Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of its goal to bring the joy and substantial benefits of swimming to children across all communities, Fluidra committed $100,000 to the Pool &amp; Hot Tub Foundation (PHTF) initiative Step Into Swim, a national program dedicated to providing safe swim education.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through the Step Into Swim initiative, Fluidra is able to share its passion for aquatic recreation and make swimming lessons accessible to all children so they can participate in what the company strives to create\u2014the perfect pool and wellness experience for all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeing able to swim isn\u2019t a luxury, it\u2019s a necessity,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said <strong>Troy Franzen<\/strong>, President of Fluidra North America who also serves on the Step Into Swim Champions Board. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe ability to swim is essential to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improving the health and safety of this and future generations<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and we are fully invested<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the effort to teach people how to swim and be safe around water, regardless of their socioeconomic situation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1 to 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d said<strong> Rowdy Gaines<\/strong>, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Vice President of Partnerships and Development at PHTA. \u201cThrough Fluidra\u2019s generous contribution we are able to make stronger strides to combat childhood drowning\u2014with focus in under-resourced communities\u2014so that we can keep children safer in the water.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2021, Step Into Swim raised over $500,000 dollars from the pool and hot tub industry, which provided grants to 22 facilities in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas &#8211; funding 6,297 swimming lessons for children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am in awe of how far Step Into Swim has come thanks to the leadership of Rowdy Gaines and our Champions Board, as well as the support from key partners like Fluidra,\u201d said <strong>Sabeena Hickman<\/strong>, CAE, President and CEO of PHTA. \u201cEveryone plays a special role in helping us mobilize against an important initiative to provide educational resources and access to free swimming lessons.
