{"id":496623,"date":"2022-02-07T12:00:45","date_gmt":"2022-02-07T19:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=496623"},"modified":"2022-02-07T12:00:45","modified_gmt":"2022-02-07T19:00:45","slug":"auburn-men-florida-state-women-earn-ncaa-a-cuts-at-auburn-invitational","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/auburn-men-florida-state-women-earn-ncaa-a-cuts-at-auburn-invitational\/","title":{"rendered":"Auburn Men, Florida State Women Earn NCAA A Cuts at Auburn Invitational"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Auburn Men, Florida State Women Earn NCAA A Cuts at Auburn Invitational<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Auburn\u2019s men\u2019s 200 freestyle relay and Florida State\u2019s women\u2019s 200 medley relay each earned automatic NCAA times <a href=\"https:\/\/auburntigers.com\/news\/2022\/2\/4\/swimming-diving-mens-relay-qualifies-for-ncaas-at-auburn-invitational.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the Auburn Invitational this weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Florida State ended the <a href=\"https:\/\/seminoles.com\/womens-relay-qualifies-for-ncaa-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first day of the two-day meet on Friday<\/a> with an emphatic 200 medley relay swim. The quartet of <strong>Tania Quagliere, Nina Kucheran, Jenny Halden<\/strong> and <strong>Rebecca Moynihan<\/strong> clocked in at 1:36.37, getting .03 under the auto standard.<\/p>\n<p>Auburn needed a time trial to get its A cut, but the Tigers got the job done. The foursome of <strong>Nathaniel Stoffle, Aidan Stoffle, Logan Tirheimer <\/strong>and <strong>Matthew Yish<\/strong> went 1:16.82 to get 35 hundredths of a second under the cut. Yish brought it home in 19.01. It\u2019s the fastest time for a Tigers\u2019 relay since the 2017-18 season.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/auburntigers.com\/documents\/2022\/2\/5\/Full_Meet_Results_PDF_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Auburn Invitational Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meet <a href=\"https:\/\/auburntigers.com\/news\/2022\/2\/5\/swimming-divings-d-celebrates-seniors-on-final-day-of-auburn-invitational.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">served as Auburn\u2019s senior day<\/a>, and the Tigers celebrated with a slew of best times. <strong>Avery Bargeron<\/strong> won the women\u2019s 200 fly in 1:55.99, the sixth-fastest time in SEC this season and eighth-best in program history. Bargeron also won the 100 fly in 52.43 to move into ninth all-time. <strong>Anastasia Makarova<\/strong> posted a top-10 program time in the 200 breaststroke at 2:11.47 to win. She also won the 100 breast, then went quicker in a time trial at 59.98, ninth-fastest in program history.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, Nate Stoffle led off the 400 medley relay with a 45.93 in the 100 backstroke, the eight-fastest time in Auburn history. Following close behind <strong>Lleyton Smith,<\/strong> who won the event in 46.28, the 10th-best time among Tigers all-time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2022-ncaa-division-i-championships-qualifying-stanards\/ncaa-college\/2021\/August\/2?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCAA Championships Time Cuts<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Meghan Lee<\/strong> was second to teammate <strong>Hannah Ownbey<\/strong> in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.59, the ninth-fastest in program history. Lee went 1:53.00 in a 200 back time trial, which is seventh all-time. It was also faster than the time Florida State\u2019s <strong>Pia Murray<\/strong> used to win the event.<\/p>\n<p>Ownbey was also second in the 200 breast. Auburn\u2019s <strong>Mykenzie Leehy<\/strong> won the 200 free and 100 free and was third in the 50. <strong>Claudia Thamm<\/strong> won that 50 and was second in the 100.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Florida picked up a handful of wins on the women\u2019s side. <strong>Leah Braswell<\/strong> won the 500 free and the mile. Second in the mile was teammate <strong>Madison Kolessar,<\/strong> who won the 400 IM. <strong>Katherine Minnich<\/strong> won the 100 back.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, Logan Tirheimer won the 100 free in 43.12 ahead of Aidan Stoffle and Florida\u2019s <strong>Chance Tirheimer.<\/strong> Aidan Stoffle also tied Yish for third in the 50 behind Logan Tirheimer in an event won by Alabama\u2019s <strong>Benjamin Hines<\/strong> in 19.71. Aidan Stoffle also won the 100 fly (46.76) ahead of Yish.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mikkel Gadgaard<\/strong> delivered the top performance on the weekend for Auburn, winning the 200 free in 1:34.12. That\u2019s the sixth fastest time in program history. Gadgaard also won the 500 free in 4:16.30 and posted an NCAA B cut in the men\u2019s 100 breast in a time trial (53.60). Teammate <strong>Michael Bonson<\/strong> was second in both the 200 and 500 free. Auburn\u2019s <strong>Andrew Simmons<\/strong> won the 200 back.<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s <strong>Jack VanDeusen<\/strong> won the 400 IM in 3:47.88. He was also second in the 1,650 free (to teammate <strong>Brennan Gravley<\/strong> in 15:00.94) and third in the 500 free. <strong>Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero<\/strong> won the 200 IM in a best time of 1:46.56. He also won the 200 fly. <strong>Raphael Rached Windmuller<\/strong> won the 100 breast in 53.35, then was second to teammate <strong>Amro Al-Wir<\/strong> in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Florida dominated the Auburn Invitational <a href=\"https:\/\/floridagators.com\/news\/2022\/2\/5\/mens-swimming-diving-divers-shine-at-auburn-last-chance-meet.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diving competition<\/a>. <strong>Elizabeth Perez<\/strong> was tops on both boards \u2013 316.40 on 1-meter, 339.90 on 3-meter \u2013 before finishing third on platform behind teammates <strong>Elettra Neroni<\/strong> (290.25) and <strong>Lauren Snider<\/strong> (290.10). <strong>Leonardo Garcia<\/strong> was the standout for the men, winning 3-meter and platform.
