{"id":496227,"date":"2022-01-29T18:00:57","date_gmt":"2022-01-30T01:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=496227"},"modified":"2022-01-29T18:00:57","modified_gmt":"2022-01-30T01:00:57","slug":"marie-schobel-madison-murtagh-celebrate-penn-state-senior-day-sweep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marie-schobel-madison-murtagh-celebrate-penn-state-senior-day-sweep\/","title":{"rendered":"Marie Schobel, Madison Murtagh Celebrate Penn State Senior Day Sweep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Marie Schobel, Madison Murtagh Celebrate Penn State Senior Day Sweep<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Penn State seniors <strong>Madison Murtagh<\/strong> and <strong>Marie Schobel<\/strong> won twice each as Penn State eased to victories over in-state foe Villanova <a href=\"https:\/\/gopsusports.com\/news\/2022\/1\/28\/womens-swimming-and-diving-women-win-senior-meet-against-villanova.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Friday night<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The women won by a 202-91, while the men coasted, 215-81 as the teams celebrated a total of 17 seniors between the squads.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-ten-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Ten Swimming<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Murtagh won the 1,000 freestyle by nearly 16 seconds over Villanova\u2019s <strong>Nicole Welch.<\/strong> She was three second quicker than Welch in the 500 free.<\/p>\n<p>Schobel capped her backstroke domination by taking the 100 and 200 with ease. <strong>Kylie Rydland<\/strong> added a breaststroke sweep for the Nittany Lions. <strong>Abby Amdor<\/strong> was second to teammate <strong>Maddie Cooke<\/strong> in the 50 free then won the 100 free ahead of teammate <strong>Shelby Kahn,<\/strong> who was victorious in the 200 free. Senior <strong>Sierra Shurts<\/strong> swept diving, and <strong>Morgan Rinn<\/strong> (200 fly) and <strong>Ellie Brandbergh<\/strong> (100 fly) added wins.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/villanova.com\/documents\/2022\/1\/29\/M11_Penn_State.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Villanova\u2019s lone win came via <strong>Kelly Montesi<\/strong> in the 200 individual medley (2:02.85). She was second to Schobel in the 200 back and third in the 50 free. <strong>Perri Stahl<\/strong> finished second in the 100 breast for the Wildcats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ben Doyle <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gopsusports.com\/news\/2022\/1\/28\/mens-swimming-and-diving-the-penn-state-mens-swimming-and-diving-swept-villanova-on-friday.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">led the Penn State men<\/a> with a formidable double, winning the 100 fly and the 100 breast. Second in the former event was senior <strong>Michael Daly,<\/strong> the winner of the 100 back. <strong>Jacob Oberle<\/strong> was second in the 100 back and third in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tommy Hurley<\/strong> won the 50 free and was third in the 100 free. <strong>Miles Cochrane<\/strong> won the 200 breast after finishing second to Doyle in the 100. In addition to Daly, seniors <strong>Carlos Vasquez<\/strong> (200 fly), <strong>William Lulek<\/strong> (200 IM) and <strong>Jonah Cey<\/strong> (1-meter and 3-meter diving) added victories.<\/p>\n<p>Villanova\u2019s best result was a second-place finish for <strong>Nolan Danus<\/strong> in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marie Schobel, Madison
