Texas Men Build Huge Lead Against TCU in Day One of Dual Meet<\/strong><\/p>\n

The University of Texas men, the national champions last year and heavy favorites to earn another title in 2022, are in action for the first time since December with a two-day dual meet against Big-12 rival Texas Christian University. The meet saw short course yards action Friday, and it will resume Saturday with long course competition. As expected, Texas was dominant against TCU, and the Longhorns currently lead 189-100.<\/p>\n

For Texas, impressive senior transfer\u00a0Cameron Auchinachie<\/strong> continued his impressive run from the fall as he won the 50 free (19.74) and 100 free (43.32), and breaststroker\u00a0Caspar Corbeau<\/strong>, who looks like a national-title contender this season<\/a>, won the 100 breast (52.77) and 200 breast (1:53.50).<\/p>\n

Carson Foster<\/strong><\/a> swam a 1:41.79 in the 200 fly to lead a 1-2-3-4 sweep for Texas. That time is the eighth-fastest mark in the nation this season, and it presents an interesting event choice for Foster for the final day of the NCAA Championships as he will have to decide between the 200 fly and 200 back as his third individual event (along with the IMs). Complicating matters slightly is that Foster may be the only scorer Texas would have in either event.<\/p>\n

Texas swimmers went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free with impressive freshman\u00a0Luke Hobson <\/strong>just edging out\u00a0David Johnston<\/strong>, 8:48.09 to 8:48.28, with\u00a0Coby Carozza<\/strong> taking third in 8:55.73. The 1000 free is not swum in championship meets, so most of the top times in the country come in dual meets, and the efforts by Hobson and Johnston rank second and third in the nation, respectively, behind only two-time Olympic gold medalist\u00a0Bobby Finke<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

No. 1 Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving collected 12 victories against TCU on Friday afternoon on Senior Day at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center to build a 189-100 lead on day one of the two-day dual meet.<\/p>\n

The Longhorns were paced by senior Cameron Auchinachie’s<\/strong> wins in the 50 free (19.74) and 100 free (43.32), junior Caspar Corbeau’s<\/strong> victories in the 100 breaststroke (52.77) and 200 breaststroke (1:53.50), and sophomore Noah Duperre’s<\/strong> double in the 1-meter (373.58) and 3-meter (408.90) springboard competitions.<\/p>\n

All told, Texas claimed points for the top-two spots in 11 of the 14 individual events and had the top-three scores in nine.<\/p>\n
