In our last swim poll, we wanted to know: with a rise in COVID-19 cases, what do you think is the likeliest scenario for the 2022 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships?<\/p>\n<p><strong> A normal meet without any restrictions on athletes, fans, and media:\u00a0<\/strong>As early as this time last month, many would have thought this could potentially happen. Though with the rise in cases due to the Omicron variant, this is option is not looking ideal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A meet like last year, with no fans and media:<\/strong> Four dual meets and the first stop on the TYR series were canceled this last week due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/covid-19-cancels-college-competitions-this-weekend-florida-state-texas-am-and-more\">COVID<\/a>. Some of these meets have the option to be rescheduled for later in the season while others will not. In other sports news, U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-winter-olympics-sports-health-2020-tokyo-olympics-d819c40f3e2ba1006d9a57e9dcd1be51\">Speedskating trials<\/a> for the Olympics next month will be held without fans and college basketball games are constantly changing due to players in COVID protocols. Based on how things are moving, during this first week of the new year, it looks like 2022 might end up being a repeat of 2021 in terms of meet structure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A cancellation like 2020:\u00a0<\/strong>This would be a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/is-college-swimming-championship-season-in-jeopardy-as-covid-cases-rise\">worst-case scenario<\/a> and something no one would want to see happen. It might also bring in the concept of another year of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-sports\/story\/_\/id\/30116895\/ncaa-grants-extra-year-eligibility-all-winter-sport-athletes\">eligibility<\/a> for students.
