RALEIGH Charter claimed its fourth straight girls team title, while North Carolina School of Science and Math earned its second boys championship in a row, at the North Carolina 1A-2A High School State Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 6. The meet was swum in short course yards at the Triangle Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Phoenix scored 293 points in their victory, with Lincoln Charter placing second (207.5). Third through fifth places were decided by just two points, with Carrboro taking third (151), Pine Lake Prep fourth (150) and North Carolina School of Science and Math fifth (149).<\/p>\n<p>Pine Lake Prep sophomore Alyssa Marsh was named Most Outstanding Swimmer among the girls. She set a state record 53.72 in the 100 fly and earned a second triumph in the 100 back (54.86). Olivia Ontjes, a junior at Raleigh Charter, set division marks in winning both the 200 IM (2:02.63) and 100 breast (1:02.73). Christina Lappin of Lincoln Charter also erased division standards in the 50 free (23.46) and 200 free (1:49.31).<\/p>\n<p>McKenzie Stevens, a senior at Salisbury who will be attending Queens College (N.C.) in the fall, claimed first in the 500 free with her 5:04.96. Shelby junior Annie Shink was tops in the 100 free (53.75). The diving event champion was Peyton Freeze, a freshman at Lake Norman Charter. She edged out teammate Erin Lee, a junior, 392.45 to 383.55.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Charter\u2019s quartet of sophomores Mara Bhalla, Kyndall Morrow and Christina Lappin, with junior Sophia Bhalla anchoring, grabbed the 200 medley relay victory (1:52.25). Raleigh Charter swept the freestyle relays. The team of juniors Paige Whalen, Tara Martin and Olivia Ontjes\u2014with freshman Lily Whalen on the second leg\u2014combined for a 1:38.21 in the 200 free relay; senior Margaret Ireland joined Martin, Whalen and Ontjes for a victorious 3:37.10.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys<\/strong><br \/>\nThe North Carolina School for Science and Math Unicorns combined for 343 points to finish comfortably in first, ahead of Carrboro (216), Shelby (206), Bishop McGuinness (187) and Lincoln Charter (159).<\/p>\n<p>Will MacMillan, a Carrboro sophomore, earned Most Outstanding Swimmer honors by setting a division mark in the 200 IM (1:57.53) and a win in the 100 free (46.35). Shelby junior Parker Campbell also set a division standard, courtesy of his 51.45 effort in the 100 back.<\/p>\n<p>Tarboro junior Cameron Anderson touched just 5-hundredths ahead of Zach Lewis of Raleigh Charter to nab the 50 free crown (21.66 to 21.71). Cole Riggan, a Lexington senior who has signed with Davidson, posted a 1:41.32 to take the 200 free title. Science and Math senior Jacob Vosburgh cruised to a 4:43.61 victory in the 500 free.<\/p>\n<p>Lake Norman Charter senior Drew Queen finished his high school career with a win in the 100 breast (59.39). Thomas Bilden, a Carrboro junior, completed the 100 fly first in 51.94. Ryan Ballant, a sophomore at Franklin, was the boys diving champion, putting together 293.85 points.<\/p>\n<p>Juniors Parker Campbell, Ben Waldrep and Matt Campbell, with freshman Jay Wilson swimming third, gave Shelby first-place points in the 200 medley relay (1:39.13). Science and Math\u2019s all-senior quartet of Matt Weaver, Gabe Shepherd, Jack Allen and Jacob Vosburgh took the 200 free relay with their 1:28.74 and their 400 free relay in 3:13.70.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/NC_1A-2A.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Results For: High School State Championships: North Carolina 1A-2A<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.niscaonline.org\/AwardPrograms\/AASwimming.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Submit your All America Application now<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CARY, North Carolina, February 9.
