ATLANTA, Georgia, February 8. THE Lambert High School girls team claimed its second consecutive title at the Georgia 6A High School Swimming and Diving Championships February 7-8. The meet was swum in short course yards in Atlanta. On the boys side, the Litherland trio from Chattahoochee put on quite a show. However, the Cougars fell just short of a championship, coming in second to Walton, 224.5-218.<\/p>\n

Girls<\/strong>
\nThe Lady Longhorns\u2019 279 points earned them the team title, with Johns Creek taking second (246.5), Brookwood third (206), Walton fourth (185) and Lassiter fifth (176).<\/p>\n

Three seniors finished within 12-hundredths of each other in the 100 back. Etowah\u2019s Megan Young, swimming in her future home pool at Georgia Tech, nosed out Lambert\u2019s Megan Beator (undecided) by 1-hundredth for the win, 55.21-55.22. Katie Grover from Milton, heading west to UCLA in the fall, finished third in 55.33. Grover posted a winning 52.90 in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n

Two other seniors closed out their high school careers with victories. Archer\u2019s Alexi Smith, who has committed to Florida State, finished the 50 free in 22.83. Johns Creek\u2019s Kaitlin Kitchens, who will be at Indiana in the fall, earned first-place points in the 100 free (51.03).<\/p>\n

Brookwood received 20 points each from its three event champions: junior Anna Jahns in the 500 free (4:49.94), sophomore Erin Scott in the 100 breast (1:04.17) and freshman Devan Sweeney in the 200 IM (2:03.59).
\nLauren Case, a Woodstock sophomore, put together a winning 1:48.81 in the 200 free. Etowah junior Madison DuVall won the diving event with 504.40 points.<\/p>\n

Lambert triumphed in the 200 free relay with the team of senior Megan Beator, sophomore Emma Fish, senior Aubrey Jones and sophomore Katherine Aikins. Walton\u2019s 400 free relay of freshmen Emma Cole and Gabbie Gaunet, with junior Mary Beckwith and senior Kira De Bruyn, finished off the meet with a 3:28.75.<\/p>\n

Boys<\/strong>
\nThe story of the night on the boys side was the Litherland triplets. Mick, Jay and Kevin\u2014all three of whom will be swimming on the University of Georgia team next fall\u2014put together five individual and two relay victories, setting three state marks in the process.<\/p>\n

The trio got things started in the very first event\u2014the 200 medley relay. With junior Jacob Rubin, the Cougars posted a state record 1:32.78 in the 200 medley relay. The quartet ended the meet the same way\u2014a state standard in the 400 free relay of 3:04.08. In between Jay rewrote the record book in the 100 breast (55.84) and took the 100 back in 48.38. Kevin picked up victories in the 200 and 500 free (1:37.36 and 4:22.91). Mick was tops in the 100 fly with his 49.40, but settled for a close second in the 200 IM (1:48.79) to Brookwood sophomore Alex Taylor\u2019s 1:48.50.<\/p>\n

Chattahoochee, however, fell 6.5 points of a title to Walton. Walton\u2019s depth proved to be the key, taking second to both of Chattahoochee\u2019s record-setting relays and placing several swimmers in scoring position in individual events.<\/p>\n

Taylor led the Bronco\u2019s winning 200 free relay (1:25.21) with sophomore Jacob Rees, senior Austin Harmel and freshman Andrew Huenniger.<\/p>\n

Tomas Peribonio, a senior from North Gwinnett, finished first in the 100 free (45.82). He will be competing for South Carolina next season. Marietta junior Tyler Harper touched out Lassiter freshman Colin Riley for first in the 50 free, 21.03-21.04. Norcross sophomore Griffin Ramsey\u2019s 449.50 points gave him the diving title.<\/p>\n
