In our last poll, we wanted to know: What was your favorite swimming event of 2021?<\/p>\n<p>The major event on the 2021 swimming calendar was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2020-tokyo-olympic-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tokyo Olympics<\/a>, where the United States&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> took home five gold medals and Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong> won seven overall medals, the most ever by a female athlete in any sport at a single Olympics. Other stars of the Olympics included the Australian duo of\u00a0<strong>Ariarne Titmus\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong>, the United States&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>, China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zhang Yufei<\/strong>, Japan&#8217;s <strong>Yui Ohashi<\/strong>, Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Evgeny Rylov<\/strong> and the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bobby Finke<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the year, the ISL season included 18 matches from late August through early December, and in the end, the trio of\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong>, <strong>Siobhan Haughey <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> led Energy Standard as the top three overall performers in the season. Energy Standard ended up winning a narrow matchup against the defending league champions, the Cali Condors, in the ISL final.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the U.S. Open, held concurrently with the ISL final, saw a few top American performers return to high-level competition following the Olympics.
