CARLISLE, Pennsylvania, February 6. THE Gettysburg College swimming teams finished off last night with a pair of wins against Dickinson College. The men’s team remained undefeated with a 109-96 triumph, while the women’s team put together a 124-81 victory.<\/p>\n

Gettysburg Release<\/b>
\nThe Gettysburg College swimming teams stayed hot with a sweep at Dickinson College in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s team remained undefeated (8-0, 5-0 CC) with a close 109-96 victory while the women\u2019s squad captured its fifth-straight win, prevailing by a 124-81 verdict.<\/p>\n

On the men\u2019s side, the Bullets led just 96-92 heading into the final event \u2013 the 200-freestyle relay. But the team of junior Mike Harmon (Shippensburg, Pa.\/home-schooled), junior Ashton Leyens (Fort Washington, Pa.\/Upper Dublin), junior Stu Cubbison (Lancaster, Pa.\/Lancaster Catholic), and senior Sean Staerk (Abington, Pa.\/Abington) won in 1:27.40 to clinch the meet.<\/p>\n

Gettysburg also opened the night with a victory in the 200-medley relay, with Harmon, freshman Ian Sherwood (Hummelstown, Pa.\/Hershey), sophomore Tyler Gould (Darien, Conn.\/Darien), and junior Jason Potter (New Canaan, Conn.\/New Canaan) touching in 1:36.29.<\/p>\n

Three Bullets also captured individual events. Leyens won the 200-freestyle in 1:46.47, Gould led a 1-2-3 sweep with a victory in the 100-butterfly (53.99), and Potter won the 100-freestyle in 47.50.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s team came away with six victories on the evening. The Bullets opened with a win in the 200-medley relay, as sophomore Alyssa Pepper (Livingston, N.J.\/Livingston), freshman Caroline Moyer (Malvern, Pa.\/Great Valley), freshman Sydney Boswell (Linwood, N.J.\/Mainland Regional), and senior Ali Roth (Doylestown, Pa.\/Central Bucks West) clocked a time of 1:53.44. Five individual victories ensued, starting with sophomore Haley Weaver (Charlotte, N.C.\/South Mecklenburg) in the 200-freestyle (1:57.09).<\/p>\n

Other winners were Roth, who led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50-freestyle with a time of 25.02, Boswell in the 100-butterfly (1:01.94), sophomore Lea Candelmo (Oakland, N.J.\/Immaculate Heart Academy) in the 500-freestyle (5:19.48), and sophomore Emily Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/Upper St. Clair) in the 100-breaststroke (1:09.40).<\/p>\n

Dickinson Men’s Release<\/b>
\nThe Dickinson men’s swim team was right with visiting Gettysburg throughout the meet, but suffered a 109-96 defeat to unbeaten Gettysburg College. The Red Devil women turned in some strong performances as well but dropped a 124-81 decision on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Senior Jason Adams (Kingston, Jamaica\/Kent School, Conn.) led-off the medley relay as the Red Devils claimed second to open the meet, posting a time of 1:37.33. He captured wins in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.81 and the 100 yard backstroke, clocking a time of 50.20.<\/p>\n

Classmate Brandon Gauthier (Greensburg, Pa.\/Hempfield) anchored the medley relay and added a pair of wins as well. He touched the wall first in the 400 individual medley (4:22.41) and won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.19.<\/p>\n

Junior Chris Miles (Hartford, Conn.\/Kingswood Oxford) had a strong meet, winning the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.81. He placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:46.84) and anchored the 200 free relay to a second place showing as well (1:29.30).<\/p>\n

First-year Alex Bennett (Baltimore, Md.\/Loyola Blakefield) won the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:06.40 and placed fourth in the 100 free (50.37). He led-off the second place free relay as well. Classmate Sam Eaton (Port Matilda, Pa.\/State College) joined the medley relay and placed second behind Gauthier in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.53). Sophomore Michael Lenker (Sparta, N.J.\/Sparta) captured the third spot in the breaststroke with a time of 1:02.73.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Alan Karickhoff (Willoughby, Ohio\/Hawken School) swam to second with the free relay and placed third in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 50.06). Junior Micah Smith (Clemmons, N.C.\/West Forsyth) joined both relays.<\/p>\n

Dickinson Women’s Release<\/b>
\nThe Dickinson men’s and women’s swim teams put up a fight against conference frontrunner Gettysburg on Wednesday night, but the Bullets came out on top to remain unbeaten on the season. The Red Devil men were right there until the end, falling 109-96, while the women suffered a 124-81 setback.<\/p>\n

Senior Carson Gannon (Morristown, N.J.\/Morristown Beard) had a great night, winning two events to lead the Red Devil women. She captured the 1000 freestyle and joined the winning 200 free relay. She clocked a time of 10:55.27 to win the 1000 and posted a time of 5:21.58 to place second in the 500 freestyle.<\/p>\n

First-year Emily Houser (Fort Washington, Pa.\/Upper Dublin) anchored the winning 200 free relay (1:42.82) and won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.11. She swam the lead leg of the medley relay that placed second with a time of 1:54.56.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Caitlin Klockner (Acton, Mass.\/Acton-Boxborough Regional) anchored the medley relay and swam the lead leg of the free relay. She won the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 54.93.<\/p>\n

Senior Natalie LeBlanc (Westport, Conn.\/Staples) won the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:47.95 while first-year Lindsay Morton (Orange, Conn.\/Amity Regional) touched the wall second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.47.<\/p>\n

First-year Jacqulyn Teller (Woodbury, N.Y.\/Syosset) joined the medley relay and placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.84). Junior Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J.\/Madison) added third place points in the 200 freestyle (2:01.20) and was fourth in the butterfly at 1:02.76.<\/p>\n
