{"id":493008,"date":"2021-12-09T08:23:46","date_gmt":"2021-12-09T15:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=493008"},"modified":"2021-12-09T08:23:46","modified_gmt":"2021-12-09T15:23:46","slug":"four-time-european-champion-georgia-davies-announces-her-retirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/four-time-european-champion-georgia-davies-announces-her-retirement\/","title":{"rendered":"Four-Time European Champion Georgia Davies Announces Her Retirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article__aligner\">\n<div class=\"intro\">\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Four-time European champion <strong>Georgia Davies<\/strong> has confirmed her retirement from swimming after a career that featured two Olympic Games and a quartet of World Championship appearances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"streamfield\">\n<div class=\"article__aligner\">\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Backstroke specialist Davies won at least three medals at each of the three European Championships she attended, the pinnacle coming in Glasgow in 2018 when she sprinted to the 50 back title, as well as helping Britain&#8217;s mixed 4x100m medley relay to gold. Those are truly special moments that not everyone gets to experience, and I feel so fortunate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although swimming is mostly an individual sport, it&#8217;s impossible to do it alone. I think that the reason I&#8217;ve been able to have such a long career is down to how much I&#8217;ve enjoyed the journey with my teammates and friends.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s also testament to the level of support I&#8217;ve had all along, from my family and from some amazing coaches and support staff.
