In our last poll, we wanted to know: Who Do You Think Should Be The Female Swimmer of the Year?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma McKeon\u00a0<\/strong>had her first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-hail-the-new-queen-australias-emma-mckeon-wins-100m-freestyle-gold-cate-campbell-a-proud-bronzed-aussie\/\">Olympic victory<\/a> and an Olympic record this past summer. She claimed gold in the 100m freestyle with teammate <strong>Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>accompanying her on the podium with a bronze win. McKeon was the fourth Australian to win that event. She set two more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimming.org.au\/athletes\/emma-mckeon\">Olympic records<\/a> in the 50m freestyle and another as part of the women&#8217;s 400m medley relay team. McKeon then went on to take home six more medals from Tokyo and help set a world record in the women&#8217;s 400m freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<p>A few months later, she claimed the top title at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/matthew-sates-emma-mckeon-crowned-2021-fina-world-cup-champs\/\">2021 FINA World Cup<\/a>. McKeon scored 228.3 points at the event, outscoring her male contemporary Matthew Sates. She also tied the World Cup record in the 100m freestyle with a time of 50.58.<\/p>\n<p>McKeon swam for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/isl-match-6-day-1-lilly-king-impressive-in-200-breast-as-cali-condors-battling-london-roar\/\">London Roar<\/a> this past ISL season where she recorded individual victories<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>was setting records as early as last week. During the 2021 Toyota U.S. Open, Ledecky set a meet record in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-sets-u-s-open-record-with-400-51-in-400-free-to-start-second-day\/\">400m freestyle<\/a>. She then went on to crush the current meet record in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TiXiJhIBRNg\">200m freestyle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Over the summer, Ledecky had an impressive run in Tokyo. She won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-in-debut-of-womens-1500-freestyle-katie-ledecky-goes-no-8-all-time-performance\/\">inaugural 1500m freestyle<\/a> and claimed gold in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-katie-ledecky-joins-elite-company-with-third-straight-title-in-800-freestyle\/\">800m freestyle<\/a> as well. This was Ledecky&#8217;s third straight win in the 800m, a feat only accomplished by a few. Ledecky rounded out her medal count with two individual silvers as well.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this fall Ledecky announced she would be leaving Stanford and heading to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-joins-university-of-florida-as-volunteer-assistant-coach-will-train-for-2024-in-gainesville\/\">Gainsville<\/a>. She will train under Anthony Nesty for the 2024 Olympics in addition to serving as a volunteer coach.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-in-epic-showdown-ariarne-titmus-dispatches-katie-ledecky-to-become-aussie-golden-girl-updated\/\">Ariarne Titmus<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>outswam American favorite, Ledecky, to gold in the 400m freestyle during the 2021 Games.
