{"id":492587,"date":"2021-12-04T11:34:16","date_gmt":"2021-12-04T18:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=492587"},"modified":"2021-12-04T11:34:16","modified_gmt":"2021-12-04T18:34:16","slug":"regan-smith-to-swim-200-backstroke-and-200-butterfly-at-us-open-day-4-finals-heat-sheets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-to-swim-200-backstroke-and-200-butterfly-at-us-open-day-4-finals-heat-sheets\/","title":{"rendered":"Regan Smith to Swim 200 Backstroke and 200 Butterfly at US Open Day 4 Finals (Heat Sheets)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Regan Smith to Swim 200 Back and 200 Butterfly at US Open Day 4 Finals (Heat Sheets)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Saturday night final session of the US Open in Greensboro, North Carolina, will feature finals of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 1500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly.\u00a0 The finals begin at 7 p.m. ET from the Greensboro Aquatic Center, led by two events coming from Regan Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Olympic champion <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> has the top seed in the 1500 and will swim in Lane 4 of the last heat of the distance race to kick off the final session. Her seed time is 15:35.35, though she also holds the world, American and US Open record at 15:20.48. Meanwhile, Olympic champion <strong>Bobby Finke<\/strong> has the top seed in the men\u2019s 1500 (14:39.65) and will be in Lane 4 for the first men&#8217;s final of the session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regan Smith<\/strong> is the top seed in the 200 backstroke, going a 2:10.51 in prelims. On Friday, she took the top seed in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, only to withdraw from the 100 fly to focus on the backstroke, which she won. On Saturday, she entered two races as well, and this time is slated to swim both in finals. In addition to being the top seed in the 200 back, ahead of <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong>, she also is the third seed in the 200 butterfly at 2:13.41.<\/p>\n<p>Regan Smith will be able to give a little more to the 200 fly in the finals with it being her final race of the meet, which could lead to a pretty interesting final after swimming the 200 backstroke earlier in the session. Smith proved she can handle the work load at the Olympic Trials, making the team in multiple events. Regan Smith has taken that versatility to Stanford, where she will continue to unleash her speed at the college level in Palo Alto.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> is the top seed in the women\u2019s 100 free, while <strong>Andrej Barna<\/strong> has the top seed int he men\u2019s 100 free.
