Cali Condors’ Stewart, Fink, Dressel and Ress Break American Record in 400 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a tight showdown between the Cali Condors and Energy Standard in the men’s 400 medley relay to conclude the first day of the ISL final, the Condors emerged in front. The team of\u00a0Coleman Stewart\u00a0<\/strong>(49.62),\u00a0Nic Fink<\/strong> (55.21),\u00a0Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>(49.01) and\u00a0Justin Ress\u00a0<\/strong>(45.80) combined to swim a time of 3:19.64, about a second ahead of the Energy team. Kliment Kolesnikov\u00a0<\/strong>(49.90),\u00a0Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> (55.38),\u00a0Chad le Clos\u00a0<\/strong>(48.92) and\u00a0Adam Barrett\u00a0<\/strong>(46.41) combined to finish at 3:20.61.<\/p>\n

That Cali team consisted of four American swimmers, and they actually broke the American record in the event. Previously, the group of\u00a0Ryan Murphy<\/strong>,\u00a0Andrew Wilson<\/strong>, Dressel and\u00a0Ryan Held<\/strong> swam a time of 3:19.98 at the 2018 Short Course World Championships. Russia owns the world record at 3:19.16 from 2019.<\/p>\n

Fink has been one of the most valuable swimmers of the meet so far, with two upset wins over Shymanovich in the 200 breast and 50 breast, and he again out-split the Energy Standard on the relay. Then, Ress provided his second clutch relay anchor of the day to bring the squad home. Notably, Energy Standard’s B-team got a 48.98 leadoff split from\u00a0Evgeny Rylov<\/strong>, but replacing Kolesnikov’s leadoff leg with Rylov’s would still have left Energy barely behind Cali.<\/p>\n

Cali secured a 24-point jackpot with the win, but Energy ended up with 22 points thanks to a 2-5 finish here. That advanage of just two points left Energy Standard 21 points ahead of Cali heading into the second and final day of the match. The Condors’ disqualification in the women’s 400 medley relay is the difference since it created a swing of 42 points in the standings.<\/p>\n

London Roar placed third with\u00a0Guilherme Guido<\/strong>,\u00a0Ross Murdoch<\/strong>,\u00a0Vini Lanza<\/strong> and\u00a0Kyle Chalmers<\/strong>. Chalmers anchored in 45.78 on the way to a final time of 3:23.51.<\/p>\n
