{"id":492292,"date":"2021-12-02T10:27:02","date_gmt":"2021-12-02T17:27:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=492292"},"modified":"2021-12-02T10:27:02","modified_gmt":"2021-12-02T17:27:02","slug":"us-open-day-2-prelims-katie-ledecky-mallory-comerford-leah-smith-trey-freeman-lead-top-seeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/us-open-day-2-prelims-katie-ledecky-mallory-comerford-leah-smith-trey-freeman-lead-top-seeds\/","title":{"rendered":"US Open Day 2 Prelims: Katie Ledecky, Mallory Comerford, Leah Smith, Trey Freeman Lead Top Seeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>US Open Day 2 Prelims: Katie Ledecky, Leah Smith, Mallory Comerford, Trey Freeman Lead Top Seeds<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first prelims session of the 2021 US Open kicked off from the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>One day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-starts-u-s-open-with-victory-in-800-freestyle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after winning the 800 freestyle,<\/a> <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> swam to the top seed in the 400 free.<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky swarm the prelims of the 400 free in 4:01.64, ahead of the field by 12 seconds. <strong>Sierra Schmidt<\/strong> took the second seed in 4:13.97. <strong>Erin Gemmell<\/strong> (4:14.06) took the third seed, while Olympian <strong>Paige Madden<\/strong> is sixth (4:16.16) heading into finals.<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky had splits in the 30s, with two 31-second split, then finished the final 50 on a 29.08 split to easily outpace the rest of the field. It was five seconds off of her world-record time of 3:5646 in the event. Her US Open record is 3:57.94.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of swimming the 400 free at the US Open,<strong> Leah Smith<\/strong> opted for the 200 IM and took the top seed in 2:12.92.
