{"id":492118,"date":"2021-11-29T13:14:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T20:14:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=492118"},"modified":"2021-11-29T13:14:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-29T20:14:27","slug":"adam-peaty-wont-return-for-london-roar-at-isl-grand-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-wont-return-for-london-roar-at-isl-grand-final\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty Won\u2019t Return for London Roar at ISL Grand Final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Adam Peaty Won\u2019t Return for London Roar at ISL Grand Final<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> won\u2019t be part of the London Roar\u2019s squad for this week\u2019s International Swimming League Grand Final.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty has yet to swim this season for the Roar, and general manager <strong>Rob Woodhouse<\/strong> confirmed that Peaty will not be back in time for the finale this weekend in Eindhoven, Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdam Peaty will not be joining the London Roar team for the grand final this weekend,\u201d Woodhouse said in a statement. \u201cWhile we kept the door open just in case, we have known all along that Adam was going to sit out this ISL season and take a long break from competitive racing with his focus being the 2022 long course season and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peaty had a sensational Tokyo Olympics, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-adam-peaty-defends-100-breaststroke-gold-arno-kamminga-gets-silver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repeating as the men\u2019s 100 breaststroke champ<\/a>. He also helped Great Britain end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-adam-peaty-fuels-great-britain-to-inaugural-gold-in-400-mixed-medley-relay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a century-long relay drought by winning gold in the mixed medley relay<\/a> and silver in the men\u2019s medley relay. He owns the long-course world records in the 50 and 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Part of his post-Tokyo hiatus was participation in the British reality show, <em>Strictly Come Dancing<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-eliminated-from-strictly-come-dancing-olympic-star-flourished-in-new-domain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in which he finished ninth in Series 19<\/a>. That kept him occupied from September through November, with the thinking that he could rejoin the Roar afterward. That, however, hasn\u2019t happened.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty won the 50 breast and 100 breast on three occasions each in 2020 for the Roar, including claiming the 100 breast in the 2020 Grand Final. He set <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flash-adam-peaty-sets-new-world-record-of-55-41-in-100-breaststroke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the world record at 55.41 in the 100 breast<\/a>, since downed by <strong>Ilya Shymanovich.<\/strong> The Roar finished third in the 2020 ISL Grand Final.<\/p>\n<p>This season, the Roar haven\u2019t won a men\u2019s breaststroke race. Shymanovich is the unquestioned favorite in the Grand Final for Energy Standard. But many of the leading men\u2019s breaststrokers in 2021 won\u2019t be at the Grand Final. Team Iron\u2019s <strong>Erik Persson,<\/strong> who won the 200 breast six times, is one, as are the Aqua Centurions duo of <strong>Arno Kamminga<\/strong> (two 200 breast wins, three 100 breast wins) and <strong>Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> (seven wins in the 50 breast).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom a team perspective, we\u2019ve had <strong>Ross Murdoch<\/strong> and <strong>Sam Williamson<\/strong> doing a great job in the breaststroke events all season for us,\u201d Woodhouse said. \u201cThey are just two of thirty incredible athletes we have on our roster this season and together they have become an incredible team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>London is in the Grand Final for the third straight season.
