{"id":490776,"date":"2021-11-05T19:09:57","date_gmt":"2021-11-06T02:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=490776"},"modified":"2021-11-05T19:09:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-06T02:09:57","slug":"arizona-state-womens-swimming-defeats-ucla","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arizona-state-womens-swimming-defeats-ucla\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona State Women&#8217;s Swimming Defeats UCLA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 22 Arizona State Women&#8217;s Swimming team welcomed fans back to the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center &#8212; and they didn&#8217;t disappoint.\u00a0 The Sun Devils took care of business against the UCLA Bruins, winning big, 173-121.<\/p>\n<p>In the first meeting between the schools in two years, the win over the Bruins marks the Sun Devils&#8217; first over their Pac-12 foe since Nov. 4, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>With the win, the Sun Devils move to 2-0 for the first time since 2017-18.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was a terrific showing for Arizona State, one in which they jumped out to an early lead and comfortably paced the Bruins the rest of the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>They opened up the meet winning the first six out of seven events before the break. In nine events, they had two or more swimmers finish with top-three finishes. With 14 events on the day, the Sun Devils only lost two in close fashion.<\/p>\n<p>The four-person relay team of <strong>Riley Lexvold<\/strong>, <strong>Iza Adame<\/strong>, <strong>Jade Foelske<\/strong>, and <strong>Erica Laning<\/strong> opened up today&#8217;s meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:42.81.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State redshirt senior <strong>Emma Nordin<\/strong> won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:54.94.<\/p>\n<p>Redshirt senior <strong>Erica Lanin<\/strong>g won her second 200-yard freestyle of the year with a time of 1:49.43.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More college news<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>ROOKIES SHINE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The freshman from down under, <strong>Molly Batchelor<\/strong>, made her Arizona State debut with a big outing, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.43. She also played a part in winning the 800-yard freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Emma Gehlert<\/strong> won her first race in her collegiate career in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.08.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UCLA TOP SWIMS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UCLA received individual event wins from junior <strong>Sophia Kosturos<\/strong> (100 back) and senior E<strong>lla Kirschke<\/strong> (200 IM) on Friday.
