The GT-UNC dual meet ended up with a split, as the Tar Hell women won 169-131, while the Yellow Jacket men finished on top by a close 154.5 to 145.5 margin.<\/p>\n<p>The standout performers in the UNC women&#8217;s victory were\u00a0<strong>Heidi Lowe<\/strong>, who was first in the 50 free (22.97) and 100 free (50.51), and\u00a0<strong>Addison Smith<\/strong>, who hit the wall ahead of the pack in the 200 free (1:49.42) and 500 free (4:55.17). For Georgia Tech&#8217;s winning men,\u00a0<strong>Baturalp Unlu\u00a0<\/strong>won three events, the 200 free (1:37.79), 100 free (44.83) and 400 IM (4:01.33), while\u00a0<strong>Caio Pumputis\u00a0<\/strong>was first in the 100 breast (53.54) and 200 breast (1:56.14).\u00a0<strong>Mert Kilavuz\u00a0<\/strong>set a Georgia Tech team record in the 1000 free (9:01.21) and also won the 500 free (4:28.91).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2021-north-carolina-vs-georgia-tech-ncaa-college-2021-11-05.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full results from the meet can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/goheels.com\/news\/2021\/11\/5\/swimming-diving-womens-swim-and-dive-defeat-georgia-tech-men-fall-just-short.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full press release<\/a> from UNC here:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The North Carolina swimming and diving team defeated Georgia Tech on the women&#8217;s side but fell just short on the men&#8217;s end. The women defeated Georgia Tech by a 169-131 margin, and the men dropped a close contest with a score of 154.5-145.5.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this season, both teams defeated Queens University in their season opener before falling to NC State and the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina claimed first-place in three of four diving contests versus Georgia Tech. <strong>Anton Down-Jenkins<\/strong> and <strong>Alexander Hart<\/strong> took first and second place respectively in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aranza Vasquez<\/strong> earned first place in the 1-meter event on the women&#8217;s side and claimed second in the 3-meter. <strong>Paige Burrell<\/strong> secured third place in both events behind <strong>Cami Hidalgo<\/strong> of Georgia Tech.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heidi Lowe<\/strong> and <strong>Addison Smith<\/strong> had stand-out performances for the Tar Heels. Lowe finished the matinee meet with four first place finishes in the women&#8217;s 100 back, 50 free, 100 free and 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Smith notched two first place finishes of her own in the women&#8217;s 200 free and 500 free to help lead the women over Georgia Tech.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grace Countie<\/strong> finished the day with three first-place finishes and one second-place finish. Countie earned first place in the 400 medley relay, 100 back and 200 free relay, in addition to a close finish for second in the 200 back.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s side had strong performances throughout the meet, but it wasn&#8217;t enough to close out Georgia Tech for the win.<\/p>\n<p>Tomas Sungalia had a strong showing, recording a first place finish in the men&#8217;s 50 free, and second place finishes in the 200 free and 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Tucker Burhans also contributed to the Tar Heels close score, adding first place finishes in the 100 back and 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>Valdas Abaliksta was also a solid performer, contributing to the men&#8217;s first-place finish in the 400 medley relay, in addition to two second place finishes in the 100 and 200 breast.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/ramblinwreck.com\/freshman-sets-record-in-1000-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full press release<\/a> from Georgia Tech here:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Georgia Tech swimming and diving competed in its first road meet against an ACC opponent on Friday. The No. 19 men\u2019s side defeated the No. 21 men\u2019s side of UNC, 154.5-145.5. The women\u2019s team fell to the No. 15 team of UNC, 169-131.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mert Kilavuz<\/strong>, in just his third meet for the White and Gold, has set the all-time mark in the 1000 free (9:01.21) in program history. The 1000 free record has been held by Shilo Ayalon since 2003.<\/p>\n<p>With this record being secured, the only record that head coach <strong>Courtney Hart<\/strong> has not been on The Flats for is the men\u2019s 1650 free record.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ruben Lechuga<\/strong> saw his first diving action on the year when he turned in scores on the 1-meter board (338.18) and 3-meter board (332.03), the top scores for the men\u2019s diving team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camryn Hidalgo<\/strong> turned in the top scores on the women\u2019s side with a score of 305.10 on the 1-meter board and a score of 350.25 on the 3-meter board. Her score on the 3-meter board was the top score for all diver in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Five \u2018B\u2019 cuts were earned on Friday in Chapel Hill. <strong>McKenzie Campbell<\/strong> earned a \u2018B\u2019 cut in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.14. <strong>Christian Ferraro<\/strong> earned a \u2018B\u2019 cut in the 100 fly with a time of 47.31.<\/p>\n<p>Ferraro recorded another \u2018B\u2019 cut time in the 200 fly (1:45.35). <strong>Caio Pumputis<\/strong> recorded two more \u2018B\u2019 cut times in the 100 breast (53.54) and 200 breast (1:56.14).<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s team took home first place in the 1000 free (<strong>Duda Seifer<\/strong>, 10:25.96), 200 fly (Campbell, 1:59.14), 200 breast (<strong>Claudia<\/strong> <strong>Butterfield<\/strong>, 2:17.58), 100 fly (<strong>Zora<\/strong> <strong>Ripkova<\/strong>, 54.70), 3-meter (Hidalgo, 350.25) and 400 IM (Campbell, 4:21.93).<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s team had the top finisher in the 1000 free (Kilavuz, 9:01.21), 200 free (<strong>Batur \u00dcnl\u00fc<\/strong>, 1:37.79), 100 breast (Pumputis, 53:54), 200 fly (Ferraro, 1:45.35), 100 free (\u00dcnl\u00fc, 44.83), 200 back <strong>(Berke<\/strong> <strong>Saka<\/strong>, 1:46.99), 200 breast (Pumputis, 1:56.14), 500 free (Kilavuz, 4:28.91), 400 IM (\u00dcnl\u00fc, 4:01.33) and 200 free relay (Ferraro, <strong>Daniel Kertesz<\/strong>, <strong>Justin Alderson<\/strong>, Pumputis, 1:20.30).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>North Carolina Women Victorious Against Georgia Tech;
