{"id":490179,"date":"2021-10-29T21:33:06","date_gmt":"2021-10-30T04:33:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=490179"},"modified":"2021-10-29T21:33:06","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T04:33:06","slug":"usc-swims-to-pair-of-victories-led-by-graduate-transfer-calypso-sheridan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-swims-to-pair-of-victories-led-by-graduate-transfer-calypso-sheridan\/","title":{"rendered":"USC Swims to Pair of Victories, Led by Graduate Transfer Calypso Sheridan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The USC men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s swimming teams both emerged victorious after defeating Pac-12 rival Washington State (women) and UC Santa Barbara (men) to open dual meet action for the Trojans on Friday (Oct. 29) at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Women of Troy outscored the cougars by 68 points while the men defeated the Gauchos by a margin of 87 points.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman\u00a0<strong>Marlene Kahler<\/strong>\u00a0claimed a pair of wins for the women&#8217;s squad during the meet, taking first in the 500 (4:54.54) and 1000y free (10:05.44).<\/p>\n<p>Trojan rookie\u00a0<strong>Daniel Matheson<\/strong>\u00a0(9:20.89) took the 1000y free for the men and was second in the 500y free (4:34.81) for USC.<\/p>\n<p>Graduate transfer\u00a0<strong>Calypso Sheridan<\/strong>\u00a0posted two individual wins, taking both the 100y backstroke (55.08) and the 100y butterfly (54.19).<\/p>\n<p>Senior\u00a0<strong>Victor Johansson<\/strong>\u00a0picked up two individual wins of his own, dominating both the 200y free (1:38.81) and 500y (4:29.07) freestyle. Fellow junior,\u00a0<strong>Isabelle Odgers<\/strong>\u00a0also secured two wins in the 200y breaststroke (2:11.22) and the 200y IM (1:59.55).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More college news<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other wins came from junior\u00a0<strong>Harry Homans<\/strong>\u00a0who won the 200y butterfly (1:47.70) and the 200y IM (1:49.23).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman\u00a0<strong>Vaggelis Makrygiannis<\/strong>\u00a0dominated the 100y backstroke (47.99) and the 200y backstroke (1:46.05).<\/p>\n<p>The Women of Troy won both relays, taking the 200y Medley relay (<strong>Jade Hannah<\/strong>, Odgers,\u00a0<strong>Genevieve Sasseville,\u00a0Mathilde Jean<\/strong>\u2013 1:43.00) and 200y free relay (<strong>Marta Ciesla,\u00a0Anicka Delgado,\u00a0Calypso Sheridan,\u00a0Kaitlyn Dobler\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 1:31.44).<\/p>\n<p>The USC men&#8217;s team won both of their relays, taking the 200y Medley (Makrygiannis, Koenigsperger, Miljenic, Selin \u2013 1:28.58) and 400y free relay (Makrygiannis, <strong>Cruz Zuniga,<\/strong> Miljenic, Selin \u2013 2:58.93) to round out the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, the Trojans return to the pool for some Homecoming fun as USC hosts their annual Alumni Relays meet at 12 PM.
