There is some notable competition on hand at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, including two member&#8217;s of this year&#8217;s U.S. Olympic team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hunter Armstrong<\/strong>, an Olympic semifinalist in the 100-meter backstroke, won the 100-yard freestyle for Ohio State, while distance ace <strong>Michael Brineger<\/strong> won the 500 free for the Hoosiers. Also for the Indiana men,\u00a0<strong>Brendan Burns<\/strong> posted a pair of day one wins in the 200 fly and 200 back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/ohio-state-vs-indiana-virginia-tech-penn-state-day-1-ncaa-college-2021-10-29.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full results from the meet can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full <a href=\"https:\/\/ohiostatebuckeyes.com\/ohio-state-wins-six-events-on-day-one-against-virginia-tech-penn-state-and-indiana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> from Ohio State below:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Ohio State swimming and diving team won six events on day one of the first meet of the season against Penn State, Indiana and Virginia Tech Friday evening at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The No. 10 women won four races and the No. 11 men won two.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of day one, the Buckeye women lead Virginia Tech, 105.00-62.00, and Indiana, 101.00-66.00. \u00a0The men\u2019s squad leads the Hokies, 95.00-72.00, and Nittany Lions, 116.50-49.50, but trails the Hoosiers, 66.00-101.00.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event Wins<\/strong><br \/>\nWomen\u2019s 200 Free Relay \u2013 Zenick, Fulmer, Ivan, Crane (1:30.33)<br \/>\nMen\u2019s 200 Free Relay \u2013 Armstrong, Andreis, Gaziev, Quach (1:17.89)<br \/>\nWomen\u2019s 100 Breast \u2013 <strong>Josie Panitz<\/strong> (100:24)<br \/>\nWomen\u2019s 100 Free \u2013 <strong>Amy Fulmer<\/strong> (49.19)<br \/>\nMen\u2019s 100 Free \u2013 <strong>Hunter Armstrong<\/strong> (43.28)<br \/>\nWomen\u2019s 400 Medley Relay \u2013 Crane, Panitz, Zenick, Fulmer (3:37.29)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meet Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Both the men and women kicked off their season with a win, as both squads won the 200 Free Relay. In the women\u2019s race, the Buckeye relay of <strong>Katherine<\/strong> <strong>Russo<\/strong>, <strong>Amanda<\/strong> <strong>Palutsis<\/strong>, <strong>Nyah Funderburke<\/strong> and <strong>Mairin O\u2019Brien<\/strong> took fourth, while Ohio State also finished seventh and eighth. The men\u2019s relay team of <strong>Jack Burroughs<\/strong>, <strong>James<\/strong> <strong>Ward<\/strong>, <strong>Collin<\/strong> <strong>McDermott<\/strong> and <strong>RJ Kondalski<\/strong> earned fifth place. The Buckeyes also raced an eighth-place finish.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 IM, <strong>Josie Panitz<\/strong> led the Buckeye women with a second-place finish (2:01.05). For the men, <strong>Thomas Watkins<\/strong> led the way with a sixth-place finish (1:48.65).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie Clark<\/strong> and <strong>Sally Tafuto<\/strong> both finished second in the 500 Free for Ohio State. Clark touched the wall in a time of 4:21.06 while Tafuto finished in 4:51.84.<\/p>\n<p>Panitz picked up the Buckeyes\u2019 first individual event win of the evening, racing a time of 1:00.24 in the 100 Back. <strong>Hudson McDaniel<\/strong> tied for second in the men\u2019s event with Indiana\u2019s <strong>Daniel Raisanen<\/strong> with a time of 54.47.<\/p>\n<p>Leading Ohio State in the 200 Breast were <strong>Paige Hall<\/strong> and <strong>Kristen<\/strong> <strong>Romano<\/strong>, who finished second and third, respectively. Hall recorded a time of 1:59.60 while Romano raced a 1:59.87. For the men, <strong>ThomasWatkins<\/strong> finished in 1:45.47 for fifth place.<\/p>\n<p>The Buckeyes swept the 100 Free as <strong>AmyFulmer<\/strong> and <strong>Hunter<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Armstrong<\/strong> won their respective races and <strong>Katherine Zenick<\/strong> and <strong>Ruslan Gaziev<\/strong> finished second. Fulmer touched the wall in a time of 49.19 and Armstrong swam a 43.28. Zenick raced a 50.11 while Gaziev finished in 43.52.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State took second in both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 200 Fly. On the women\u2019s side, <strong>Katie Trace<\/strong> led the Buckeyes, finishing in a time of 2:02.02. <strong>Alex Quach<\/strong> raced a time of 1:45.25 to finish runner up in the men\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacob Fielding<\/strong> led the Buckeye diving team with a third-place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 376.85. <strong>Joey<\/strong> <strong>Canova<\/strong>, <strong>Clay<\/strong> <strong>Chaplin<\/strong>, <strong>Lyle<\/strong> <strong>Yost<\/strong> and <strong>Jacob Siler<\/strong> followed in fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh place. <strong>Mackenzie Crawford<\/strong> led the women\u2019s squad, finishing 10th in the 3-meter dive with a final score of 262.15.<\/p>\n<p>The Buckeye women picked up their final win of the day in the 400 Medley Relay. The relay team of <strong>Emily<\/strong> <strong>Crane<\/strong>, Panitz, Zenick and Fulmer finished in a time of 3:37.29, five seconds ahead of the second-place Virginia Tech relay.
