The Holt Hickman Outdoor Pool will include an eight-lane, 50-by-25-meter outdoor pool, with one- and three-meter diving boards. It also includes a 20-by-40-foot instruction pool for lessons or rehab sessions.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/smumustangs.com\/news\/2021\/10\/25\/mens-swimming-diving-smu-to-add-outdoor-pool-to-robson-lindley-aquatics-center.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an SMU press release<\/a>, the aquatics center will make the university the only one with both indoor and outdoor Olympic pools in the same facility.<\/p>\n<p>The Hickman family\u2019s gift is in honor of <strong>Holt Hickman,<\/strong> who swam at SMU from 1952-54, winning a pair of Southwest Conference team championships. He swam for coach <strong>A.R. \u201cRed\u201d Barr<\/strong> and was a teammate of SMU&#8217;s future coach, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/passages-legendary-smu-coach-george-mcmillion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the late great<\/a> <strong>George \u201cMac\u201d McMillion<\/strong>. The indoor portion of the aquatics center, the Barr-McMillion Natatorium, is named for those two men.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bruce Robson<\/strong> and <strong>Steve Lindley,<\/strong> the lead donors to the aquatic center bearing their name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/smu-women-bring-meets-back-to-the-hilltop-in-2017-2018-with-new-pool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that opened in 2017<\/a>, gave $6.2 million to the project. The fundraising goal for the outdoor pool took 10 months.<\/p>\n<p>The new addition includes a locker room facility for both the indoor and outdoor pools, as well as outdoor showers. There will also be an indoor dryland training center specifically targeted for SMU\u2019s diving program.
