Jake Magahey and Georgia Cruise to Wins Over South Carolina<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following some impressive efforts in a pair of dual meet wins over North Carolina Friday<\/a>, the Georgia Bulldogs returned to racing Saturday when they hosted the South Carolina Gamecocks. Georgia again won both meets, with scores of 167-125 on the women’s side and 175-114 on the men’s. For Georgia’s men, sophomore Jake Magahey\u00a0<\/strong>won two events for the second straight day, this time in the 1000 free and 500 free, while the Bulldog women’s team got two individual wins from fifth-year swimmers\u00a0Gabi Fa’amausili<\/strong> and\u00a0Danielle Della Torre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following a season-opening victory over North Carolina Friday, the University of Georgia swimming and diving team completed its Carolina doubleheader with a sweep of South Carolina Saturday afternoon at Gabrielsen Natatorium.<\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s meet, Georgia topped South Carolina, 175-114, while the Bulldog women prevailed over the Gamecocks by a 167-125 margin. Overall, the Bulldogs won 23 combined events in the meet.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Jake Magahey<\/strong> was again dominant in the distance events, winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:24.97 after posting a 9:02.78 in the 1,000 freestyle. In other freestyle events, juniors Dillon Downing<\/strong>, Zach Hils<\/strong> and Bradley Dunham<\/strong> each earned a victory. The Bulldogs notched B-cut times in both backstroke events with sophomore Luca Urlando<\/strong> tallying a 46.32 in the 100 and Ian Grum<\/strong> dropping a 1:44.44 in the 200. Senior Andrew Abruzzo<\/strong> also grabbed a B-cut in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:45.72, while posting the top 200 IM time of 1:48.47 in exhibition.<\/p>\n

In the 100 breaststroke, senior Harrison Wayner<\/strong> prevailed with a mark of 55.66, while sophomore Connor Haigh<\/strong> earned his first career win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:02.50. Sophomore Wesley Ng<\/strong> won for the second-straight day with a winning time of 48.05 in the 100 butterfly. Wayner and Ng joined Urlando and Downing to post a first-place time of 1:27.65 in the opening 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n

On the women\u2019s side, Georgia displayed its strong depth as nine different swimmers earned a win. Senior Gabi Fa\u2019amausili<\/strong> swept the sprint events with times of 22.78 and 50.01, respectively. Fellow fifth-year Danielle Della Torre<\/strong> also posted the top time in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, although the IM was an exhibition event. Freshman Abby McCulloh<\/strong> impressed again in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:48.39, while fellow rookies Dune\u00a0Coetzee<\/strong> (500 free), Eboni McCarty<\/strong> (100 back) and Mia Abruzzo<\/strong> (200 fly) all earned wins, with Abruzzo joining her brother Andrew in a sibling sweep of the fly. In other events, junior Zoie Hartman<\/strong> earned a B-cut in the 100 breaststroke, Sloane Reinstein<\/strong> took the 200 freestyle, and senior Callie Dickinson<\/strong> won the 100 butterfly.<\/p>\n

At the diving well, sophomore Meghan Wenzel<\/strong> placed second in the 3-meter with a mark of 251.70, followed shortly behind by Tally Brown<\/strong> (247.50) and Ellie Crump<\/strong> (247.43). In the men\u2019s 1-meter, freshman Nolan Lewis<\/strong> again posted the Bulldogs\u2019 top mark with a third-place score of 293.93.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
