THE James Madison men&#39;s swimming and diving team took an impressive win today over the Blue Hens from Delaware, 153-113. On the women&#39;s side, JMU captured its final home meet of the season by beating the Delaware Blue Hens, 158-139.<\/p>\n<p>The Dukes won seven of the 16 women&#39;s events and finished second in 10 others. <\/p>\n<p>Among the highlights of the meet was the performance of JMU junior, Mary Webber (Chattanooga, Tenn.\/The Baylor School).  She finished first in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle events, with respective times of 25.28 and 1:57.10.  Webber also took a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. <\/p>\n<p>JMU was victorious in 200-yard freestyle relay.  Composing the squad were senior captain Marie Hansbrough (Catlett, Va.\/Liberty), sophomore Christine Filak (Clifton, Va.\/Centreville), freshman Kim Baguchinski (Little Silver, N.J.\/Red Bank Regional), and freshman Megan Loucks (Charlotte, N.C.\/Myers Park) with a time of 1:38.95.  Filak also touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.65) and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard medley relay. <\/p>\n<p>Senior captain Rebecca Guy (Richmond, Va.\/James River) touched the wall at 2:09.97 to give her a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and was also victorious in the 400-yard individual medley (4:42.58).  Sophomore Sarah Jane Bova (Roanoke, Va.\/Cave Spring) finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.50. <\/p>\n<p>In the distance events, senior Amanda Coyle (Marlton, N.J.\/Cherokee) took a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.61) and came in third in the 1650-yard freestyle. <\/p>\n<p>In diving the Dukes finished second, third and fourth on both the one- and three-meter boards.  Freshman Lisa Enders (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/Seneca Valley) took two second-place finishes. <\/p>\n<p>Setting a pool record on the three-meter board was Delaware\u2019s Julie Van Deusen (Bear, Del.\/The Hill School) from Delaware.  The new mark is 309.375.  Van Deusen also finished first on the one-meter board.  <\/p>\n<p>On the men&#39;s side, The Dukes captured 11 of the 16 events to close out the regular season with a 6-4 record. <\/p>\n<p>To put an exclamation on the meet, JMU set a pool record in the last event.  Junior Jeff Hicks (Clifton, Va.\/Centreville), junior Mike Nicholas (Herndon, Va.\/PaulVI), freshman Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.\/Carlise) and senior John McLaren (Virginia Beach, Va.\/Kempsville) clocked in at 1:23.23 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  It was the fourth pool mark established during the Dukes\u2019 three-meet homestand. <\/p>\n<p>The Dukes also won the 200-yard medley relay.  Swimming were senior Scott Moyer (Raleigh, N.C.), Nicholas, senior captain Ryan Hegna (Cranford, N.J.\/Wardlaw-Hartridge) and senior captain Brody Reid (Richmond, Va.\/Douglas Freeman) touching the wall with a time of 1:40.25. <\/p>\n<p>Hicks took two first-place finishes and had the top time in an exhibition swim.  In the 100-yard backstroke, Hicks came in with a time of 51.59, he finished with a time of 48.95 in the 100-yard freestyle and swam as an exhibition in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:49.03. <\/p>\n<p>Junior Aaron Nester (Williamsburg, Va.\/Lafayette) was victorious in the 100- and 200- yard breaststroke events with respective times of 57.85 and 2:07.67.  Coming in second in both those events was junior Robert Smith (Hershey, Pa.\/Hershey). <\/p>\n<p>JMU took a first-, second-, and third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.  Coming in first was Hegna (1:46.56), followed by Reid and sophomore Adam Gathman (Matthews, N.C.\/East Mecklenburg).  In the 50-yard freestyle the Dukes once again captured another first-, second-, third-place finish.  McLaren had the fastest time with 20.67, and behind him was freshman R.J. Dunn (Herndon, Va.\/Herndon), and junior Mark Depew (Newtown, Pa.\/Council Rock). <\/p>\n<p>Earning single wins for the Dukes were, freshman Adam Zurowski (Woodbridge, Va\/Bishop Ireton) in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:43.97), freshman Brad Burton (Richmond, Va.\/J.R. Tucker) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.40), and Moyer had the fastest time in the an 400-yard individual medley (4:15.91), which was swam as an exhibition. <\/p>\n<p>In diving, junior Daniel Rotach (Baltimore, Md.\/Mount St. Joseph) finished first on both the one- and three- meter boards, and behind him was freshman Will Waite (Herndon, Va\/Oakton).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Feb. 1.
