{"id":489549,"date":"2021-10-15T22:48:27","date_gmt":"2021-10-16T05:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=489549"},"modified":"2021-10-15T22:48:27","modified_gmt":"2021-10-16T05:48:27","slug":"madison-murtagh-marie-schobel-lead-penn-state-past-west-virginia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/madison-murtagh-marie-schobel-lead-penn-state-past-west-virginia\/","title":{"rendered":"Madison Murtagh, Marie Schobel Lead Penn State Past West Virginia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Madison Murtagh, Marie Schobel Lead Penn State Past West Virginia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seniors <strong>Madison Murtagh<\/strong> and <strong>Marie Schobel<\/strong> won two events each in Penn State\u2019s 181-107 win at West Virginia Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Murtagh won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.84, a 1-2 finish with <strong>Catherine Stanford.<\/strong> She also won the 500 free ahead of teammate <strong>Abby Amdor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Schobel led a backstroke sweep in both events, pacing a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 back in 55.09, then a 2:00.32 in the 200. Schobel also led off the winning 400 medley relay, pairing with <strong>Maddie Cook, Maura Fluehr<\/strong> and Stanford.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liv Jack <\/strong>won the 100 breast, and <strong>Kylie Rydland<\/strong> won the 200 breast ahead of Jack. <strong>Morgan<\/strong> <strong>Rinn<\/strong> captured the 200 fly and Amdor and Cooke went 1-2 in the 50 free as the Nittany Lions claimed the top four spots (and top six overall, with exhibitions). <strong>Sierra Shurts<\/strong> and <strong>Tatum Evans<\/strong> went 1-2 in three-meter diving for the Nittany Lions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emily Knorr<\/strong> got a win for the Mountaineers in the 1,000 free for the only win in the pool. <strong>Sarah Krusinksi<\/strong> won the one-meter diving event with 269.85 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really proud of our ladies this evening, obviously it was a big challenge but I\u2019m most impressed with how we stayed within our own system and raced in our own lanes,\u201d West Virginia coach <strong>Vic Riggs<\/strong> said <a href=\"https:\/\/wvusports.com\/news\/2021\/10\/15\/womens-swimming-diving-women-fall-to-penn-state-in-dual-meet.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a team release<\/a>. \u201cThere was a lot of improvement from last WV State Games, which is what we were looking for.
