NICE, France, January 31. AT the Nice International Long Course Meet, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu shook off a night of food poisoning to still pull off a victorious triple in the 50 free, 200 back and 100 fly in France. She even threw in a Hungarian record for good measure.<\/p>\n

Hosszu opened up her night with a win in the women’s 50-meter free as she topped Lithuania’s Ruta Meilutyte, 25.19 to 25.26, in the sprint event. France’s Anna Santamans wound up third in 25.28. That’s a Hungarian record for the Iron Lady as she beat Evelyn Verraszto’s 25.28 set in 2009. Hosszu now owns six of the women’s long course records.<\/p>\n

Hosszu then doubled up with a 2:11.52 to top the women’s 200-meter backstroke finale. That represented nearly a two-second victory as Spain’s Duane Da Rocha Marce placed second in 2:13.35. Spain’s Melanie Costa Schmid then wrapped up the top three with a time of 2:13.78.<\/p>\n

Hosszu closed out the gritty title trifecta with a 59.38 to clip Camille Muffat (59.63) at the wall. Great Britain’s Charlotte Atkinson finished third overall in 1:00.52.<\/p>\n

Meilutyte, on the other hand, threw down a 1:07.37 in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke for the win. That’s just of Jessica Hardy’s 1:07.05 from the Arena Grand Prix stop in Austin as the top time in the world thus far. Along with Laura Sogar (1:07.76), only three swimmers have cracked 1:08 this year so far. Spain’s Jessica Vall Montero finished second in 1:09.22, while France’s Charlotte Bonnet snared third in 1:10.94.<\/p>\n

France’s Jeremy Stravius turned in a time of 2:01.13 to top the men’s 200-meter backstroke. Hungary’s David Foldhazi, who swims with Hosszu’s training group, checked in with a second-place time of 2:02.75. France’s Eddie Moueddene picked up third in 2:05.53. Stravius closed out the night with a double as he posted a 53.44 to 53.45 touchout triumph against Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin in the 100-meter fly. Great Britain’s Antony James finished third in 53.75.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s Andrey Govorov his the wall in 22.46 to top the men’s 50-meter freestyle finale, while Great Britain’s Ben Proud picked up second in 22.57. Russia’s Sergey Fesikov rounded out the podium with a third-place time of 23.05. France went 1-2-3 in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke. Quentin Coton took the title in 1:02.82 with Thomas Rabeisen finishing second in 1:03.82. William Debourges wound up third in 1:04.21.<\/p>\n

Another one of the major stars in attendance here in France, Spain’s Mireia Belmonte Garcia won the women’s 800-meter freestyle by more than two seconds. She charted a time of 8:30.20 for the win, while France’s Coralie Balmy finished second in 8:32.49. The Netherlands’ Sharon Van Rouwendaal finished third in 8:33.88.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s Mykhaylo Romanchuk put in an easy speed time of 15:09.21 to win the men’s 1500-meter freestyle by a wide margin. France’s Anthony Pannier placed a distant second in 15:30.83, while his teammate Benoit Debast claimed third in 15:34.66.<\/p>\n
