Gregorio Paltrinieri, Leonie Beck Close Out LEN Open Water Cup with Wins<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gregorio Paltrinieri<\/strong> and Leonie Beck<\/strong> picked up wins in the fifth and final leg of the 2021 LEN Open Water Cup Series in Alghero, Italy, on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For Paltrinieri, it\u2019s the second straight win in home waters in Italy. It\u2019s also the second straight time he\u2019s pushed to the line ahead of countryman Domenico Acerenza<\/strong>. After beating Acerenza by one-tenth of a second in Pimobino last week, the reigning European champion in the 5-kilometer and 10-km races got the better of him by 0.8 seconds in a winning time of 1 hour, 55 minutes, 0.8 seconds. Paltrinieri was the only multiple winner out of the four installments of the five scheduled legs of the 2021 LEN Open Water Cup Series that occurred.<\/p>\n

Third was Frenchman Marc-Antoine Olivier,<\/strong> the winner of the first leg of the race in August. He edged out Hungary\u2019s Kristof Rasovszky,<\/strong> the Olympic silver medalist.<\/p>\n

On the women\u2019s side, the German\u2019s continued their dominance this season, with the fourth and fifth top-two finishes in the last three races. Beck, who was second in Piombino by fractions of a second, this time left no doubt, speeding away to win by five seconds in 2:03:48.5. Second was Jeannette Spiwoks,<\/strong> who had won Leg 3 in Barcelona in another German 1-2. Piombino winner Giulia Gabbrielleschi<\/strong> was third, two seconds back of Spiwoks.<\/p>\n

Lea Boy,<\/strong> who was second in Barcelona, finished seventh. Leg 1 winner Martina de Memme<\/strong> was fifth.<\/p>\n
