Germany\u2019s<strong> Isabel Gose<\/strong> earned the night\u2019s first win, touching the wall in 4:00.57 to hold off the field by more than a second to open the FINA World Cup session.<\/p>\n<p>USA\u2019s<strong> Cavan Gormsen<\/strong> took second in 4:01.46, followed by Australia\u2019s<strong> Leah Neale<\/strong> (4:04.57) and USA\u2019s <strong>Erin Gemmell<\/strong> (4:03.28).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s 400 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It didn\u2019t take long for South Africa\u2019s <strong>Matthew Sates<\/strong> to make some more history. After earning\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/matt-sates-breaking-out-as-the-next-south-african-star\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> world junior records<\/a>, in the last World Cup stop, he added another one in the 400 free, winning the event in 3:37.92.<\/p>\n<p>It broke the old mark of 3:38.00 set by <strong>Australia\u2019s Thomas Neill<\/strong> in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Lithuania\u2019s <strong>Danys Rapsys<\/strong> was second in 3:38.29, followed by Austria\u2019s <strong>Felix Aubock<\/strong> (3:30.50).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s 50 backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kira Toussaint<\/strong> of the Netherlands continued her stellar performances in 50 backstroke races. The world record holder in the event (25.60) touched the wall in 26.07 to win this World Cup race.<\/p>\n<p>Australia went 2-3 with <strong>Holly Barratt<\/strong> (26.32) and <strong>Minna Atherton<\/strong> (26.36), finishing ahead of another Dutch star <strong>Maaike de Waard<\/strong> (26.42) and USA\u2019s <strong>Linnea Mack<\/strong> (26.42).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s 200 Backstroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hungary\u2019s <strong>Hubert Kos<\/strong> won the men\u2019s 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:52.79. It was enough to hold off South Africa\u2019s <strong>Martin Binedell<\/strong> (1:53.12).<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s <strong>Yakov Toumarkin<\/strong> was third in 1:53.50.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s 200 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Switzerland\u2019s<strong> Maria Ugolkova<\/strong> won the 200 butterfly. She was the fastest out at the 50 and led start to finish to win in 2:06.44.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary\u2019s <strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> took second in 2:06.52. USA\u2019s <strong>Tess Howley<\/strong> was third in 2:06.67.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA Olympian <strong>Tom Shields<\/strong> held off a pair of Hungarian stars to win the 100 butterfly at the FINA World Cup stop.<\/p>\n<p>Shields was out in 22.62 and came home in 26.21 to win the race in 48.83.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary\u2019s <strong>Kristof Milak<\/strong> was second in 49.92, ahead of compatriot <strong>Szebasztian Szabo<\/strong> (50.42).<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <strong>Matthew Temple<\/strong> was fourth in 50.77.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s 200 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Turkey\u2019s <strong>Viktoria Gunes<\/strong> made her move at the halfway point and went from third to first, hanging on for the rest of the race to win in 2:22.23.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eszter Bekesi<\/strong> took the second spot in 2:23.70, followed by South Africa\u2019s <strong>Emily Visagie<\/strong> (2:23.96).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Arno Kamminga<\/strong> of the Netherlands won the 100 breaststroke in 56.08 to hold off the field by a half second in a strong race.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s <strong>Fabian Schwingenschlogl<\/strong> was second in 56.64, followed by Lithuania\u2019s<strong> Andrius Sidlauskas<\/strong> (57.71) and USA\u2019s <strong>Zhier Fan <\/strong>(57.91).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s 50 freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Australia dominated the 50 free going 1-2-4, led by Olympic gold medalist <strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong>, who won the race in 23.50.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madison Wilson<\/strong> finished second in 23.96 and <strong>Holly Barratt<\/strong> was fourth (24.04), finishing behind third-place <strong>Michelle<\/strong> <strong>Coleman<\/strong> of Sweden, who touched in 23.98.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <strong>Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> put together a strong race in the men\u2019s 50 free, touching the wall in 20.97.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s <strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> was second in 21.04, ahead of <strong>Jesse Puts<\/strong> of the Netherlands (21.11).<\/p>\n<p>Hungary\u2019s <strong>Szebasztian Szabo<\/strong> (21.20) and <strong>Kristof Milak<\/strong> (21.44).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s 100 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Switzerland\u2019s <strong>Maria Ugolkova<\/strong> won the 100 IM after being being second at the turn. She touched the wall in 58.81.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden\u2019s <strong>Michelle Coleman<\/strong> was first at the turn and finished second in 59.65.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s<strong> Nika Godun<\/strong> took third in 59.71, followed by Hungary\u2019s <strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> (1:00.00) and USA\u2019s<strong> Leah Hayes<\/strong> (1:00.44).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s 100 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Africa\u2019s <strong>Matthew Sates<\/strong> won his second event of the day, though this one was not a world junior record. Sates won the 100 IM in 51.77 to close the FINA World Cup Day 1.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s <strong>Yakaov Tourmarkin<\/strong> was second in 52.98.
