The greatest possible time decreases for additional swimming velocity increases are in the non-propulsive phases (entry and recovery). Strategies to minimize the entry phase were covered in previous articles (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/issues\/2021\/swimming-world-magazine-july-2021-issue-pdf-only\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">SW July<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/issues\/2021\/swimming-world-magazine-august-2021-issue-pdf-only\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">August 2021<\/span><\/a>). This article includes strategies to minimize the recovery phase time of all four strokes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><br \/>\nRECOVERY PHASE<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe recovery phase time at sprint speed is shown for elite male swimmers in Fig. 1 for butterfly (Seifert, Delignieres, Boulesteix &amp; Chollet, 2007), backstroke (Chollet, Seifert &amp; Carter, 2008), breaststroke (Leblanc, Seifert, Baudry &amp; Chollet, 2005) and freestyle (Seifert, Chollet &amp; Bardy, 2004).
