BENTLEY University completed a sweep of Bridgewater State this week in a midweek battle. The men&#8217;s team topped BSU, 213.5-84.5, while the women captured a 154-128 victory.<\/p>\n<p><b>Bentley Men&#8217;s Release<\/b><br \/>\nSeventeen events were contested and members of the Bentley University men\u2019s swimming and diving team captured them all as the Falcons finished their dual schedule with a 213.5-84.5 win at Bridgewater State University Tuesday night. The win boosted Bentley to 7-4 overall.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn.\/Tolland HS) was the only Falcon to win two individual events and he had his best meet of the season. He captured the one-meter diving with a 283.00 and posted a winning score of 275.20 from the three-meter board. Both were season-bests for Bridge, who is also a member of the Bentley men\u2019s soccer team.<\/p>\n<p>In the freestyle events, Bentley\u2019s winners were junior Rene Faria (Caracas, Venezuela) in the 50 yards (22.48), sophomore Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y.\/Brighton HS) in the 100 (50.42), sophomore Kevin Diefenbach (Hamilton, N.J.\/Steinert HS) in the 200 (1:52.78), junior Luke Mason (Lowell\/Lowell HS) in the 500 (5:20.43) and sophomore Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J.\/Tenafly HS) in the 1000 (11:12.91).<\/p>\n<p>Backstroke events went to freshmen Gregory Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.\/Sachem North HS) (100, 1:00.57) and Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas\/Lubbock HS) (200, 2:09.19). In the breaststroke, juniors Janco Cornelius (Brookfield, Conn.\/Brookfield HS) (1:05.97) and Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif.\/Los Gatos HS) (2:30.92) were the first to the wall in the 100 and 200, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners were senior Peter Belanger (Andover\/Andover HS) (200 individual medley, 2:09.64) and freshmen Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.\/Morris Plains HS) (200 butterfly, 2:07.32), Colin McCarthy (Glastonbury, Conn.\/Northwest Catholic HS) (100 fly, 57.90) and Jerrod Zimmer (Middletown, Conn.\/Middletown HS) (100 IM, 59.91).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y.\/William Nottingham HS) was part of both winning relays for the Falcons.<\/p>\n<p><b>Bentley Women&#8217;s Release<\/b><br \/>\nJuniors Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn.\/Danbury HS), sophomore All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine\/Falmouth HS) and freshmen Nicole Hellstern (Southbury, Conn.\/Pomperaug HS) and Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston\/Tahanto Reg. HS) were all double-winners for the Bentley University women\u2019s swimming and diving team Tuesday night, which closed out its dual schedule with a 154-128 win at Bridgewater State University.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards posted a season-best time of 11:21.83 in the 1000 yard freestyle and also captured the 500 free in 5:30.90. McGahie picked up wins in the 100 breaststroke (58.14 seconds) and the 100 individual medley (1:03.99).<\/p>\n<p>Hellstern\u2019s wins came in the 100 free (58.14) and the 200 free (2:04.15). The 50 free went to her sister, Danielle, with the junior claiming the 50 free in 27.10.<\/p>\n<p>Mancini kept her season-long winning streak intact, posting impressive scores of 286.95 (one meter) and 298.95 (three meter) to sweep the diving events.<\/p>\n<p>Bentley\u2019s list of winners also included senior Caroline Lewis (Westfield\/Westfield HS) in the 100 backstroke (1:05.50) and a trio of sophomores: Lindsey Goodwin (Staten Island, N.Y.\/Notre Dame Academy) in the 200 butterfly (2:34.56), Meg Pernsteiner (Highland Heights, Ohio\/Hillcrest HS) in the 200 back (2:18.72) and Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J.\/Bergen County Academies) in the 100 fly (1:04.27).<\/p>\n<p>Bentley, 9-2, will compete in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Feb. 6-9 at Southern Connecticut State.<\/p>\n<p><b>Bridgewater State Release<\/b><br \/>\nJunior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) eclipsed her own school mark in the 200 breaststroke to lead the Bridgewater State University swimming &amp; diving teams against Division II Bentley University on Tuesday evening at the Moriarty Pool.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting Bentley swept the meet as the Falcons recorded a 213.5-84 victory on the men&#8217;s side and a 154-128 win on the women&#8217;s side.<\/p>\n<p>Rechtiene posted a time of 2:34.20 to place first in the 200 breaststroke as she bettered her previous standard of 2:35.07 set in 2012. Rechtiene also swam a leg on a pair of winning relay squads, the 200 medley relay (2:01.37) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.26).<\/p>\n<p>Joining Rechtiene on the 200 medley relay were seniors Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) and Nelia Borden (Westport, Mass.) and freshman Sarah Biltcliffe (Fall River, Mass.). Rechtiene, Borden, senior Ariel Gillis (Blackstone, Mass.) and junior Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) swam the 200 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<p>Rechtiene also placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.19. Also adding second-place showings for the Bears were Dunican in the 100 backstroke (1:06.78), Biltcliffe in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.31) and 200 breaststroke (2:42.85), Borden in the 50 freestyle (27.77), senior Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:47.30) and sophomore Kerry Davis (Haverhill, Mass.) in the 200 butterfly (2:51.86).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman diver Mary Woodbury (Holden, Mass.) qualified for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming &amp; Division Association (NEISDA) Division II\/III Championships on the one-meter board as she posted a score of 184.0 points. Woodbury finished third in the event. Sophomore Brooke Pacheco (Bristol, R.I.) tallied a personal-best score of 185.50 points on the three-meter board.<\/p>\n<p>BSU junior David Elofson (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded a personal best score of 202.90 points on the three-meter board as he finished second in the scoring.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Erick DalMolin (Springfield, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:04.31 in the 100 individual medley to finish with the second best time in the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is by far the best meet I&#8217;ve ever coached here at Bridgewater State,&#8221; noted BSU Head Coach Mike Caruso. &#8220;The kids were great and we had so much fun tonight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Words cannot express how proud I am of these athletes and coaches,&#8221; Caruso added. &#8220;It was a great way to send the seniors off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the meet, the Bears honored 11 seniors who were competing in their final home dual meet.
