In our last poll, we wanted to know: <b>Which of these female world records (LCM) will be broken next?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The four options in the discussion were\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>world record in the 200 freestyle,\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky&#8217;s<\/strong> mark in the 400 freestyle,\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom&#8217;s<\/strong> record in the 100 butterfly and\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu&#8217;s<\/strong> standard in the 200 IM. Pellegrini&#8217;s record is the oldest female long course world record in the books and the only mark remaining from the supersuit era of 2009, when swimmers competed in full-body polyurethane suits, which are now banned.\u00a0<strong>Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> made a serious run at breaking Pellegrini&#8217;s time this year, but she came up a tenth short before going on to capture Olympic gold.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hosszu swam her remarkable 2:06.12 at the 2015 World Championships, when she clipped\u00a0<strong>Ariana Kukors&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong>suit-era record of 2:06.15. Ledecky broke the 400 free world record (previously held by Pellegrini) numerous times between 2014 and 2016 before she set it at 3:56.46 on her way to Olympic gold. Titmus came close to that record, too.
