{"id":488094,"date":"2021-09-28T08:06:24","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T15:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=488094"},"modified":"2021-09-28T08:44:48","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T15:44:48","slug":"adam-peaty-takes-a-trip-to-where-olympic-journey-started-ahead-of-cha-cha-charge-to-paris-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-takes-a-trip-to-where-olympic-journey-started-ahead-of-cha-cha-charge-to-paris-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty Takes A Trip To Where Olympic Journey Started Ahead Of Cha-Cha-Charge To Paris 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> took a trip down memory lane as he reminisced about the places that have played a key part in his journey to the top of the Olympic podium.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty became the first Briton to defend an Olympic title when he added the 100m breaststroke in Tokyo to gold at Rio 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old also became only the second swimmer &#8211; along with <strong>Kosuke Kitajima<\/strong> &#8211; to\u00a0 win that event on two occasions.<\/p>\n<p>He was also a member of the British mixed 4x100m medley relay squad that won gold in the Japanese capital.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty is unbeaten over two lengths of a long-course pool since his international debut at the 2014 Commonwealth Games since when he has won eight world and 16 European titles as well as defending his Glasgow gold.<\/p>\n<p>Coached since 14 by <strong>Mel Marshall<\/strong> at the City of Derby club and now Loughborough, Peaty has always acknowledged the role others have played.<\/p>\n<p>In the film called &#8216;Homecoming with Adam Peaty,&#8217; the swimmer &#8211; driving a CUPRA Formentor &#8211; recalls his first swimming lesson, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I was clinging to my one of my best mates&#8217; mum&#8217;s arms &#8211; just don&#8217;t let me go.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was like a cat in water. I did not like it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Peaty was brought up in Uttoxeter, a market town in Staffordshire in the English midlands, where he swam at the local leisure centre, which he credits as the starting point, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Of all the pools I&#8217;ve seen around the world, this is the most important.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My first proper swim club: where the journey really, really started.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He left the Dove Valley club for the City of Derby to which he pays a surprise visit during a club training session at the Queen\u2019s Leisure Centre.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Homecoming with Adam Peaty\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6A8hiwzo2Tg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Courtesy of CUPRA<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caitlin Skelly said: \u201cIt\u2019s just amazing that Adam is here. We all look up to him and to see that he has come back is a big inspiration to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe\u2019s such a big role model in the sport, not just for us as a club but globally,\u201d commented fellow 16-year-old Ben Twynham.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Kyle Hudson was thrilled to have Adam prove to his team what could be achieved with hard work and determination, saying: &#8220;He\u2019s shown it\u2019s possible to start here and go as far as you want to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking on, Peaty said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI was one of these kids, so if they can relate to that \u2013 that you haven\u2019t got to be anyone special and that you just have to be someone who works extremely hard \u2013 then one of these kids may go to the Olympics in the future and for me that is what it\u2019s all about.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s incredible \u2013 all the nostalgia and all the memories.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;When you win and you win big, you can easily forget it so I\u2019m glad that today happened with CUPRA to experience it all again.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Peaty &#8211; a CUPRA brand ambassador &#8211; has swapped the pool for the dancefloor on British TV show &#8216;Strictly Come Dancing&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-impressive-in-debut-dance-on-strictly-come-dancing-video\/\/\">He wowed on his debut dance<\/a> on Saturday, recording the tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I definitely want to go to Paris and then calibrate, see where I&#8217;m at.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But I don&#8217;t know what I want to do after swimming because I don&#8217;t
