She plans to study mechanical engineering during her time with the Dragons.<\/p>\n<p>She told\u00a0<em>Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>&#8220;I\u2019m so incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Drexel University!! Thank you so much to my friends, family, and all of the amazing coaches I\u2019ve had over the years. Go Dragons!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Carmen, who does her club swimming with Machine Aquatics, most recently competed at the NCSA Championships where she earned five best times and finaled in two events. She also placed 23rd in the 400 IM at NCSAs back in March before going on to finish fifth in the 1000 free at Christiansburg Sectionals.<\/p>\n<p>Her best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 IM &#8211; 2:07.84<\/li>\n<li>400 IM &#8211; 4:23.91<\/li>\n<li>200 back &#8211; 2:04.64<\/li>\n<li>500 free &#8211; 5:04.57<\/li>\n<li>1000 free &#8211; 10:32.64<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also competing for James Madison High School, Carmen raced to fifth in the 500 free at the Virginia Class 6 State Championships as a junior after taking 16th in that event during her sophomore season.
