Since then, the team has raised its total to national victories to 15, and that has made Reese the most decorated collegiate swimming coach ever. So to honor their coach, the University of Texas constructed a new outdoor aquatic center named for Reese, and the pool was dedicated in a ceremony Saturday morning in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Donors, alumni, athletic director\u00a0<strong>Chris Del Conte<\/strong> and Texas women&#8217;s coach\u00a0<strong>Carol Capitani<\/strong> were all in attendance at the dedication. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/eddie-reese-outdoor-pool-opens-at-university-of-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The pool actually opened last fall<\/a>, but the dedication was delayed until now.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Eddie Reese Outdoor Pool dedication \u2714\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Thank you: Carol &amp; Jeff Heller, ALL the donors and all of our former swimmers &amp; divers \ud83e\udd18 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ydjq1SPw2p\">pic.twitter.com\/ydjq1SPw2p<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Texas Men&#39;s Swimming &amp; Diving (@TexasMSD) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TexasMSD\/status\/1434208621785669634?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 4, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Reese is entering his 44th season as head coach at Texas after he turned 80 in July, so he has been at the helm in Austin for more than half his life. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-mens-coach-eddie-reese-announces-retirement-after-43-seasons-15-national-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reese announced his retirement in March<\/a>, two days after his Longhorns captured the NCAA title with a 27-point win over Cal. However, two weeks after three Texas-trained college and pro swimmers qualified for the U.S. Olympic team (<strong>Townley Haas<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Gunnar Bentz<\/strong>) and several others just missed (<strong>Carson Foster<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Will Licon<\/strong> among them), <a href=\"https:\/\/texassports.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/coaches\/eddie-reese\/1720\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas<\/a> announced that Reese <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/eddie-reese-not-retiring-after-all-will-remain-head-coach-at-texas-and-chase-16th-championship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">would be returning<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-confirms-eddie-reese-will-remain-head-coach-reese-theres-more-that-i-want-to-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas head coach<\/a> after all and that\u00a0<strong>Wyatt Collins<\/strong> would remain as Reese&#8217;s assistant.<\/p>\n<p>In recent history, Texas had won four straight championships in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, most of them in completely dominant fashion, before Cal was victorious at the 2019 championships at Texas&#8217; home pool in Austin. The 2020 meet was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Texas was back on top this past year, even though the Longhorns only won two events, the 200 free relay and one-meter diving.
