Frenchman James Penrose<\/strong> has completed a triple-crossing of Lake Willoughby in Vermont, just the third swimmer to complete the crossing.<\/p>\n

Penrose completed the swim Monday, traversing the 15 miles in nine hours and 30 minutes. The swim was organized by the Kingdom Games<\/a> and ratified by the Northeast Kingdom Open Water Swimming Association. Penrose is the third swimmer to do the three-way crossing, joining Charlotte Brynn in 2017 and Greg O\u2019Connor (four-way crossing) in August. Penrose is the oldest to complete the swim.<\/p>\n

Penrose departed North Beach at 6:50 a.m. on Monday and arrived at South beach for the second time to complete the swim at 4:20 p.m. Water temperatures ranged from 68 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit with air temps in the mid-60s.<\/p>\n

Penrose\u2019s support kayaker was Kathleene Callicott<\/strong> of Derby, Vermont. Rob Andersen<\/strong> of Newport and Phil White<\/strong> of Derby provided boat support.<\/p>\n

Penrose, a native of Paris, swam the English Channel in 2012 and the Strait of Gibraltar in 2013. His marathon career<\/a> began in earnest in 2011 with the 10-mile race at the Kingdom Swim.
