{"id":485234,"date":"2021-08-13T06:37:32","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T13:37:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=485234"},"modified":"2021-08-13T07:16:57","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T14:16:57","slug":"adam-peaty-swaps-poolside-for-the-paso-doble-in-tv-show-strictly-come-dancing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-swaps-poolside-for-the-paso-doble-in-tv-show-strictly-come-dancing\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty Swaps Poolside For The Paso Doble In TV Show &#8216;Strictly Come Dancing&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Olympic 100m breaststroke champion <strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> is swapping the pool for the dancefloor after it was announced he would be starring in the BBC&#8217;s &#8216;Strictly Come Dancing&#8217; show.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty became the first Briton to defend an Olympic swimming title when he added gold in Tokyo to the one he claimed at Rio 2016.<\/p>\n<p>He also became only the second swimmer to win consecutive golds in the two-length event, 13 years after <strong>Kosuke Kitajima<\/strong> achieved the feat at Beijing 2008 to add to his gold from Athens.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty announced that he would be taking some time away from poolside and now it appears it will be\u00a0 sequins and glitterballs rather than swimsuits and goggles.<\/p>\n<p>Not for a while any focus on his movement through the water and around the wall but instead the intricacies of his foxtrot and tango.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty told the BBC:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think this will come as a surprise to a lot of people, but I\u2019m so excited to finally share the news that I\u2019ll be joining Strictly this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m really looking forward to doing something totally different and challenging myself away from the pool.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m hoping my competitive nature is going to compensate for my dancing abilities!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well I\u2019ve been waiting along time to say this but I\u2019m going on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bbcstrictly?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@bbcstrictly<\/a> \ud83d\ude05\ud83d\ude05\ud83d\ude05 I actually can\u2019t believe I\u2019m taking these legs out of the pool and onto the dance floor!
