NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Washington State University has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Emily Lundgren\u00a0<\/strong>of Chula Vista, Calif.<\/p>\n

She will join Kirsten de Goede<\/strong><\/a> of Durban, South Africa as a member of the Cougars’ Class of 2026.<\/p>\n

She told\u00a0Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n

“I\u2019m very proud to announce my verbal commitment to Washington State University and join a fantastic group of athletes under the direction of Coach Matthew Leach and the welcoming and supportive WSU coaching staff.\u00a0 I already feel a part of this very special program and swim family. I am beyond grateful for the endless support I\u2019ve received over the years from my amazing family, friends, teachers, and coaches.\u00a0 I look forward to continuing my academic and athletic pursuits on this beautiful campus and contribute all I can to the successes of this team. Go Cougs!”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A talented breaststroker, Lundgren trains year-round with SOL Swim Team under Steve Wiggs <\/strong>and earned silver in the 200m breast and bronze in the 100m breast at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Irvine back in April. In 2019, she won the B-final of the 200m breast at Mount Hood Futures.<\/p>\n

A rising senior at Eastlake High School, Lundgren placed ninth in the 100 breast at the CIF State Championships as a freshman. Her sophomore season was cancelled due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
