The project, Al-Musallam said is a direct tribute to the achievement of Hafnoui, the 18-year-old who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-tunisian-tigers-tokyo-dream-ahmed-hafnaouis-wild-celebration-after-winning-shock-gold-from-lane-eight\/\">used an outside lane to upstage the field and win gold<\/a> in the final of the men\u2019s 400 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>The Tunisian National Olympic Committee (CNOT), which met with Al-Musallam Thursday, announced the decision. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/allafrica.com\/stories\/202107300277.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release through Tunis Afrique Presse<\/a>, the CNOT considered the new facility \u201can asset that adds to the Tunisian swimming school which will boost its visibility on the international scene and reinforce sports diplomacy through investment in success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Al-Musallam <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/husain-al-musallam-elected-fina-president-appoints-american-brent-nowicki-as-executive-director\/\">took office earlier this year<\/a>. He has pledged to increase funding and global access to the sport and facilities. Starting in the Muslim world is a logical first step for the Kuwaiti sports administrator.<\/p>\n<p>Hafnaoui, a native of the small town of Metlaoui, has become an icon for yielding the first men\u2019s swimming gold medal in the pool since 2012. He\u2019s being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africanews.com\/2021\/07\/31\/heroic-welcome-for-tunisia-s-18-year-old-olympic-king-ahmed-hafnaoui\/\/\">hailed as a hero back home<\/a>, even as the country is
