Olympics: Day Seven Heat Sheets Available; Qualifying Concludes Friday Evening<\/strong><\/p>\n

The last evening of swimming prelims competition at the Tokyo Olympics will begin Friday evening at 7 p.m. local time (6 a.m. ET in the U.S.). The schedule includes the men’s and women’s 50 freestyle races, followed by the men’s 1500 freestyle and the women’s and men’s 400 medley relays. The 50 freestyle semifinals will be conducted Saturday morning during the second-to-last session of the Olympics, and the finals in all five events will conclude the swimming portion of the Tokyo Olympics Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> will kick off his last indivdual event of the Olympics with the 50 free, where he is the top seed with a twice-achieved time of 21.04, and he will have Great Britain’s\u00a0Ben Proud<\/strong> and France’s\u00a0Florent Manaudou<\/strong>, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the event, on either side of him in heat 10. Russia’s\u00a0Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> is seeded second, while\u00a0100 free bronze medalist and 100 back silver medalist Kliment Kolesnikov <\/strong>will be in an outside lane in his heat.<\/p>\n
The 11 heats of the women’s 50 free will feature a competitive field led by world-record holder\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong>, defending Olympic champion\u00a0Pernille Blume<\/strong>, Australians\u00a0Emma McKeon<\/strong> and\u00a0Cate Campbell<\/strong> and 2019 world champion\u00a0Simone Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>of the U.S. in her only individual event of these Games.<\/p>\n
In the 1500 free, the USA’s Bobby Finke<\/strong>, the shocking gold medalist in the men’s 800 free, will compete in the fourth and final heat with his two fellow 800-meter medalists, Italy’s\u00a0Gregorio Paltrinieri\u00a0<\/strong>and Poland’s\u00a0Mykhailo Romanchuk<\/strong>, also in that heat. World champion\u00a0Florian Wellbrock<\/strong> of Germany, who actually led the 800 with 50 meters to go before rapidly falling to fourth, will be in heat three.<\/p>\n
Finally, the United States women will be the top seed in the women’s 400 medley relay, with Australia, Canada and China among the potential challengers. Great Britain will be the first seed in the men’s 400 medley relay, but it’s unclear if\u00a0Adam Peaty<\/strong> will compete in prelims or if fellow 100 breast finalist\u00a0James Wilby<\/strong> might fill in.
