Beginning at 10:30 a.m. Tokyo time Sunday morning (9:30 p.m. ET\/6:30 p.m. PT in the USA), the first swimming gold medals of the Tokyo Games will be handed out in the men&#8217;s 400 individual medley, men&#8217;s 400 freestyle, women&#8217;s 400 individual medley and women&#8217;s 400 freestyle relay. Semifinal action in the women&#8217;s 100 butterfly and men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke will also be on tap.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/tokyo-2020\/olympic-games\/en\/results\/swimming\/olympic-schedule-and-results.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Event schedule<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2021-tokyo-olympics-day-one-finals-heat-sheets-international-elite-2021-07-24.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heat sheets<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first evening of prelims action saw Australia&#8217;s <strong>Brendon Smith<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-in-shocker-favorite-daiya-seto-fails-to-qualify-for-final-of-400-individual-medley\/\">\u00a0claim the top seed for the men&#8217;s 400 IM finals ahead of 2016 Olympic silver medalist\u00a0<strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong><\/a>, while world champion and gold-medal favorite\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong> stunningly missed the final. In the men&#8217;s 400 free, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-henning-bennet-muhlleitner-surprise-top-seed-in-400-freestyle-gabriele-detti-looking-for-another-podium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Germany&#8217;s <strong>Henning Bennet Muhlleitner\u00a0<\/strong>claimed the top seed for finals<\/a> in an absolute stunner ahead of Austria&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Felix Aubock<\/strong> and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabriele Detti<\/strong>, with Australian pre-race favorites\u00a0<strong>Elijah Winnington<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Jack McLoughlin<\/strong> lurking.<\/p>\n<p>American\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-yui-ohashi-solid-emma-weyant-top-seed-in-400-im\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Emma Weyant<\/strong> was the top seed in the women&#8217;s 400 IM by more than a second<\/a>, and while defending Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> did not look good in prelims, Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yui Ohashi<\/strong> swam a great race and will be ready to challenge Weyant for Olympic gold.
