Events on the program for day one include the men&#8217;s 400 IM, women&#8217;s 100 butterfly, men&#8217;s 400 freestyle, women&#8217;s 400 IM, men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke and women&#8217;s 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.com\/tokyo-2020\/olympic-games\/en\/results\/swimming\/olympic-schedule-and-results.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Event schedule<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2021-tokyo-olympics-day-one-prelims-heat-sheets-international-elite-2021-07-24.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heat sheets<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meet will begin, as has become tradition at the Olympics, with four heats of. the men&#8217;s 400 IM. The United States was riding a streak of excellence in the event with five straight gold medals (<strong>Tom Dolan\u00a0<\/strong>twice,\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> twice and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Lochte<\/strong> once) before Japan&#8217;s <strong>Kosuke Hagino<\/strong> held off the USA&#8217;s <strong>Chase Kalisz\u00a0<\/strong>for gold in 2016. Hagino will not defend his country, but his countryman\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong> is the reigning world champion and top seed, with Kalisz seeded second.<\/p>\n<p>Four swimmers are seeded under 56 in the women&#8217;s 100 fly, including China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zhang Yufei<\/strong>, the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Torri Huske<\/strong>, Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maggie MacNeil<\/strong> and Australia&#8217;s <strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong>, while world-record holder\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> is the fifth seed despite a lack of clarity on her participation here after her recovery from a fractured elbow.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 400 free sees Australians\u00a0<strong>Elijah Winnington<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Jack McLoughlin<\/strong> seeded first and third, respectively, while Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabriele Detti<\/strong> is the second seed.\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Yui Ohashi<\/strong> will each have to deal with an American challenger in their 400 IM heats (<strong>Emma Weyant<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Hali Flickinger<\/strong>, respectively), and then it will be\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> time in the men&#8217;s 100 breast, which has the most heats of any event in the session (seven).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the United States will swim in heat one of the women&#8217;s 400 free relay, while the Netherlands and Canada will join favored Australia in heat two.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tokyo Olympics: Day One Prelims Heat Sheets Posted;
