She said it was a dream come true.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you would have asked me many years ago if I would ever think of becoming a vice-president of the IOC, I would have thought that I was dreaming,&#8221; Nicole Hoevertsz said after the results were announced. &#8220;But today you make this dream a reality from a young lady from a small island. I promise to continue to work with you, for you and for the organization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hoevertsz, 57, from Aruba, takes the place vacated by American Anita De Franz, who served two four-year terms, the maximum allowed by IOC standards. Hoevertsz has been a member of the IOC Executive Board for the past four years.<\/p>\n<p>She received 72 of a possible 79 votes in the IOC election, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidethegames.biz\/articles\/1110513\/hoevertsz-elected-ioc-vice-president\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to an Inside the Games report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Her term on the Executive Board ends in 2025, at the same year that the IOC will be electing <strong>Thomas Bach<\/strong>&#8216;s successor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hoevertsz is a former synchronized swimmer and has been part of the IOC since 2016 and her roles have continuously gotten bigger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ioc-president-thomas-bach-olympics-send-message-of-peace-and-solidarity-muto-still-doesnt-rule-out-cancellation-if-cases-rise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bach<\/a> appointed Hoevertsz as chair of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles Coordination Commission in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>She also chaired the Olympic Athletes from Russia Implementation Group, that set rules and regulations for the participation of Russian athletes at Pyeongchang 2018, and is a vice-chair of the Paris 2024 Coordination Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nicole Hoevertsz was elected vice president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday at the IOC session in Tokyo.
