The list is not formatted as a psych sheet like those seen at most meets in the United States but instead as a list of entries by country and then further listed by event. The list includes the swimmers entered into the Olympics as relay-only competitors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2021-tokyo-olympics-entry-lists\/international-elite\/2021\/July\/25\"><strong>VIEW THE OFFICIAL TOKYO OLYMPICS ENTRY LIST HERE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the entry list, we learned that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-entries-sarah-sjostrom-will-swim-100-fly-katinka-hosszu-wont-defend-100-back-gold-medal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sweden\u2019s <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong>\u00a0has decided to enter the 100 butterfly<\/a>. Sjostrom had stated that she planned to focus on the 50 and 100 freestyle in Tokyo and that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-contemplating-olympic-program-defense-of-100-butterfly-title-still-uncertain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she was unsure if the 100 fly would be on her Olympic program<\/a>\u00a0after she fractured her elbow in February and then dealt with a months-long recovery process. Sjostrom could still change her mind and scratch the 100 fly, but it appears she is planning on participating.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hungary\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>\u00a0has also had a rough year, and she will not be defending her 2016 Olympic gold medal in the 100 back. Hosszu is best known for her 200 and 400 IM talents, and she holds the world record in both events along with being four-time world champion and defending Olympic gold medalist in each. But while she also won the 100 back in a surprising turn of events in Rio, she will just swim the IMs and the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Finally,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/only-17-swimmers-entered-in-womens-200-butterfly-for-tokyo-olympics-just-19-in-womens-400-im\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only 17 swimmers are entered into the women\u2019s 200 butterfly<\/a>. The event will be swum in three rounds, prelims, semifinals and finals, and with just 17 swimmers in the event, only one swimmer will be cut from the first round to the second.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cA\u201d cut in the 200 fly is 2:08.43, and 13 of the competitors entered have achieved that time during the Olympic qualifying period. While Thorpe never officially tested positive, the Australian Anti-Doping Agency did briefly investigate, and the episode was still considered a stain on the reputation of the five-time Olympic gold medalist and a national hero in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Now, 14 years later,\u00a0<em>The Sunday Telegraph<\/em>\u00a0is reporting that the then-President of FINA was the source who leaked the confidential report to\u00a0<em>L\u2019Equipe<\/em>\u00a0with eyes on discrediting Thorpe.\u00a0<strong>Mustapha Larfaoui<\/strong>\u00a0helmed FINA from 1988 to 2009, and when the now-88-year-old Algerian spoke to the\u00a0<em>Telegraph<\/em>, he did not deny speaking with the L\u2019Equipe reporter but claimed he did not remember specifics of that conversation<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSorry \u2013 it was 14 years ago,\u201d Larfaoui said, according to the\u00a0<em>Telegraph<\/em>. \u201cI don\u2018t remember well that situation and I don\u2019t want to say the wrong thing. We are not as young as we were. Now,\u00a0Phelps will join the NBC crew of\u00a0<strong>Dan Hicks\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Rowdy Gaines\u00a0<\/strong>to provide commentary for select races at the Tokyo Olympics. On an NBC Sports conference call previewing coverage of the Olympic Games, Gaines revealed that Phelps will be calling some races in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As most of you know, this will be the first Olympics since 1996 that we haven\u2019t had the GOAT, the greatest of all time, Michael Phelps,&#8221; Gaines said. &#8220;He will be joining Dan Hicks and (me) in the booth on a lot of races. And I know he\u2019s going to offer some incredible insight on especially those races that he has won so many gold medals in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NBC Sports confirmed the news in a press release Monday, that Phelps will announce select races and also serve as a &#8220;Primetime Correspondent&#8221; on the broadcast. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>By Dan D&#8217;Addona and David Rieder<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first batch of Speedo Sectionals meets took place from Thursday through Sunday at five sites across the country: Austin, Texas; Fullerton, California; Geneva, Ohio; Greensboro, North Carolina and Roseville, California.<\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katharine-berkoff-michael-chadwick-open-greensboro-with-50-free-wins-speedo-sectional-winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thursday<\/a>, <strong>Katharine Berkoff<\/strong>\u00a0won the 50 free in Greensboro at 25.64, ahead of NC State teammate\u00a0<strong>Kylee Alons<\/strong>\u00a0(25.73).\u00a0<strong>Michael<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Chadwick<\/strong> won the men\u2019s 50 free in 22.59. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katharine-berkoff-wins-100-backstroke-in-greensboro-day-2-speedo-sectional-winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Friday<\/a> in\u00a0Greensboro, Kentucky\u2019s <strong>Mason Wilby<\/strong>\u00a0won the 200 free in 1:49.68, just one hundredth of a second ahead of Louisvlle\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Nicolas Albiero<\/strong> (1:49.69). Meanwhile, NC State NCAA champion\u00a0<strong>Katharine Berkhoff<\/strong> won the 100 backstroke in 59.32. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nicolas-albiero-kylee-alons-claim-100-butterfly-wins-in-greensboro-day-3-speedo-sectional-winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saturday&#8217;s action<\/a> saw<strong>\u00a0Albiero<\/strong>, who recently announced he will return to the Cardinals for a fifth season, putting together a strong 100 butterfly in 52.17, while Alons won the women\u2019s 100 fly in 58.98.<\/p>\n<p>The most impressive swim of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hunter-tapp-posts-157-200-backstroke-at-greensboro-sectionals-winners-from-all-five-speedo-sectionals-meets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the final night<\/a> came from NC State\u2019s <strong>Hunter Tapp<\/strong>. Tapp finished fourth in the 200 back at the U.S. Olympic Trials last month in 1:56.76, and he cruised to the win Sunday at the Greensboro Sectionals meet in 1:57.57.
