Earlier this year, Australia’s\u00a0Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> almost broke\u00a0Katie Ledecky’s<\/strong> world record in the women’s 400 free with an amazing 3:56.90 at Australia’s Olympic Trials. A few days later, Ledecky swam a 4:01.27 at the U.S. Olympic Trials, well behind her Australian rival’s time. That set up a potentially amazing showdown between the duo at the Tokyo Olympics, where Ledecky will be looking for a repeat gold medal after she won in dominant fashion five years ago in Rio, while Titmus is aiming for another win over Ledecky after she stunned the American to win the event at the 2019 World Championships.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old Ledecky will be competing in her third Olympics after previously winning five Olympic gold medals and one silver, while Titmus, 20, will be making her Olympic debut in Tokyo after winning three gold medals and one silver at the last World Championships. Titmus is aiming to become the first Australian woman to capture an individual Olympic gold since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
