ANTWERP, Belgium, January 26. FRAN Halsall led another strong day for Great Britain at the Speedo Flanders Cup with a sprint double by way of the 50 free and 50 fly on the final day of a two-night swimming extravaganza.<\/p>\n

Great Britain opened where it left off yesterday when it dominated the podium on day one. The Brits went 1-2-3 in the men’s 1500-meter freestyle with Nicholas Granger posting a winning 15:10.60 in the metric mile. Stephen Milne took second in 15:16.86, while Caleb Hughes also cleared 16:00 with a third-place 15:46.59.<\/p>\n

The GBR squad kept it up in the women’s 100-meter fly with Rachael Kelly beating the field with a 58.78. Teammate Jemma Lowe touched second in 59.14, while Belgium’s Kimberly Buys also broke 1:00 with a third-place 59.22. Pieter Timmers, who really held the Belgian flag high this weekend, topped the men’s 100-meter free in 49.04. Adam Brown of Great Britain took second in 49.63 with Belgium’s Emmanuel Vanluchene placing third in 49.68.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Danielle Lowe touched out Belgium’s Kim Janssens, 32.29 to 32.39, for the women’s 50-meter breaststroke title, while Sweden’s Joline Hostman claimed third in 32.52. Michael Jamieson put up a 2:12.59 to then win the men’s 200-meter breast with Ross Murdoch taking second in 2:13.25. Adam Peaty, another sporting the GBR colors, took third in 2:15.49.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Jazmin Carlin kept up her strong performances here in Antwerp with a 4:06.68 to dominate the women’s 400-meter free. Aimee Willmott then finished second for GBR with a 4:09.70, while Eleanor Faulkner claimed third in 4:10.88.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh moved into the win column on the second day with a 4:19.80 in the men’s 400-meter IM. That’s well off his meet record of 4:15.39 from 2011, but was enough to pick up the victory today. Great Britain’s Roberto Pavoni touched second in 4:20.03, while teammate Matthew Johnson finished third in 4:21.51.<\/p>\n

Willmott bounced back from second in the 400 free with a 2:10.87 to 2:10.97 touchout triumph ahead of Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu in the women’s 200-meter IM. Hosszu, surprisingly, has not had as dominant of an outing as she has become accustomed to at money meets. Great Britain’s Siobhan-Marie O’Connor wound up third in 2:12.50.<\/p>\n

USA’s David Plummer, shaking off a slip on the start of the 100 back yesterday, raced his way to a meet record 25.24 to win the men’s 50-meter back today. That beat Aschwin Wildeboer’s 25.64 from 2012. Israel’s Jonatan Kopelev finished second in 25.41 with Christopher Walker-Hebborn claiming third in 25.43.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Lauren Quigley clipped teammate Elizabeth Simmonds, 1:00.53 to 1:00.71, in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. Another from the GBR squad, Georgia Davies, took third in 1:00.76. Joe Roebuck snatched the men’s 100-meter fly title in 53.52 for GBR with Egon Van Der Straeten taking second for Belgium in 53.58. Adam Barrett of Great Britain finished third in 53.66.<\/p>\n

Great Britain kept piling on the strong performances with Fran Halsall winning the women’s 100-meter free in 54.76. Amy Smith placed second in 55.05, while Jessica Lloyd earned third in 55.32 to lead a top-six sweep for the British squad. Peaty claimed his second podium of the night with a 27.80 to win the men’s 50-meter breast. Christopher Steeples took second in 27.91, while Murdoch picked up another podium as well with a third-place 27.93.<\/p>\n

Molly Renshaw hit the wall in 2:26.38 to win the women’s 200-meter breaststroke, while Sweden’s Joline Hostman placed second in 2:27.79. Danielle Lowe wound up third in 2:29.79. Great Britain’s Luke Greenbank earned the men’s 200-meter back title in 2:00.06, while Belgium’s Lander Hendrickx finished second in 2:00.86. GBR’s Craig McNally turned in a third-place 2:01.75.<\/p>\n

Halsall doubled up on the night with a 26.25 to win the women’s 50-meter fly, while Belgium’s Kimberly Buys touched second in 26.35. Great Britain’s Rachael Kelly earned third in 26.88 as she tied Amy Smith for the podium spot.<\/p>\n
