KRISTIANSAND, Norway, January 26. AT the Skagerrak Swim Meet in Kristiansand, Norway, Danish backstroke star Mie Nielsen took down her long course Nordic and Danish record in the 50-meter backstroke.<\/p>\n
Nielsen, who continues to grow into a world-class swimmer after first jumping into the international scene by breaking Danish records as a 13-14 age grouper, threw down a 28.43 in the sprint backstroke in Norway this weekend. That swim beat her old record of 28.51 from her gold-medal winning effort at the 2012 European Junior Championships.<\/p>\n
Nielsen has typically been a short course star, with a silver in the 100 back at the 2012 Istanbul World Championships, but she’s definitely developing as a long course threat heading into the 2016 Rio Olympics. She definitely has the pedigree with 1988 silver medalist Benny Nielsen as her father and Lone Jensen, who swam at the 1978 World Championships as her mother.<\/p>\n
