NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>New Caney, Texas native and U.S. Open qualifier\u00a0 Alexis Newman\u00a0<\/strong>has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Arizona and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2022.<\/p>\n

She will join Eleni Gewalt<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>of Spring Grove, Ill. as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.<\/p>\n

Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI am BEYOND blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at The University Of Arizona!! This wouldn\u2019t have been possible without the endless support from my family, coaches, and friends. I can\u2019t wait to begin the next chapter of my life in Tucson, BEAR DOWN?!!\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Primarily a backstroker, Newman does her club swimming with Blue Tide Aquatics and placed second in the 100 back at the 18&U Winter Championships – LAC in December after notching a best time at the Toyota U.S. Open in December.<\/p>\n

Newman also finished 11th in the 100 back at Juniors West in 2019 and won the 50m back at the Southern Zone Senior Championships the summer prior.<\/p>\n
