Martina Carraro<\/strong>, who held the national record of 1:05.86 going into the race, led at the turn in 31.06 ahead of Benedetta Pilato<\/strong> (31.18) and Castiglioni (31.29).<\/p>\n

A second 50 of 34.38 steered Castiglioni from third to first taking 0.19 off Carraro’s mark and was 0.02 inside Sophie Hansson’<\/strong>s winning time of 1:05.69 from the European Championships at which she won silver.<\/p>\n

It placed her fourth in the 2021 rankings behind Lilly King<\/strong> (1:04.72), Lydia Jacoby<\/strong> (1:05.28) and Annie Lazor<\/strong> (1:05.37).<\/p>\n

Pilato was 0.02 inside the old record in an Italian junior mark of 1:05.84 with Carraro next home in 1:06.08.<\/p>\n

The meet at the iconic Foro Italico features timed finals and Sjostrom headed the 50 fly, 0.01 ahead of European champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo who clocked 25.43.<\/p>\n
The triple Olympic medallist is now ranked third in 2021 behind only Melanie Henique<\/strong> and her French record of 25.17<\/a> and Kromowidjojo who\u00a0clocked 25.30 in Budapest.<\/p>\n
Sjostrom made her return to competition at the start of June<\/a> at the Mare Nostrum<\/strong> in Canet, France following elbow surgery after falling on ice in early February.<\/p>\n
Kristof Milak<\/strong> split 23.90\/26.99 to head the 100 fly in 50.89, weeks after setting a Hungarian record of 50.18 en-route to the European Championships.<\/p>\n

Federica Pellegrini<\/strong> went 1:56.23 in the 200 free with this weekend set to be her final appearance at the famous meet.<\/p>\n
The world record-holder announced earlier this month she would retire from international competition after Tokyo with the ISL set to be her swansong with the Aqua Centurions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
The 2008 Olympic champion produced metronomic splits: out in 27.35 followed by 29.24\/ 29.91 and a final 50 of 29.73 to come home in a time 0.06 quicker than that which saw her claim silver in Budapest.<\/p>\n
Marco De Tullio<\/strong> headed the 400 free in 3:47.41 ahead of Guilherme Costa<\/strong> (3:48.62) and Matteo Lamberti<\/strong> (3:49.19) in the fastest timed final although Fernando Scheffer<\/strong> – Costa’s fellow Brazilian – ranked third-swiftest overall in 3:49.01.<\/p>\n
Gabriele Detti<\/strong>, who won bronze at Rio 2016, was fifth in 3:49.42 and has already qualified for Tokyo with De Tullio.<\/p>\n
Thomas Ceccon<\/strong>, who won triple relay bronze in Budapest last month, touched first in the 100 back in 53.79 ahead of Simone Sabbioni<\/strong> (53.96) and Michele Lamberti<\/strong> (54.14).<\/p>\n
Srihari Nataraj<\/strong> was second-fastest overall in an Indian record of 53.90.<\/p>\n
Etiene Medeiros<\/strong> stopped the clock in the 50 back in 27.78, 0.01 ahead of European champion Kira Toussaint<\/strong> (27.79).<\/p>\n
