THE Nebraska women's swimming and diving team split a pair of dual meets Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool. The Huskers defeated Louisville, 237-48, but fell to Big 12 foe Kansas, 172.5 -127.5. Kansas also defeated Louisville, 248.5 – 38.5.

No men's meet was held as both Nebraska and Kansas killed off their men's teams two years ago in a coordinated move by the schools' athletic directors. Both claimed financial reasons for the move, a claim that was contradicted by new multi-million dollar projects initiated immediately thereafter and Nebraska's distribution of a record $1.2 million in bonuses to the A.D. and his favored coaches.

In Saturday's meet, a pair of freshmen did all that they could to send the Huskers seniors out on a winning note in their final home competition, as Danielle Erickson and Amie Buoy each won a pair of events for NU. Erickson took home first in both the 100- (59.00) and 200-yard (2:06.34) backstroke events, while Buoy swept both of the springboards, winning the one-meter with a score of 249.50 and the three-meter with a score of 271.45.

Junior Angie Matheu added a win in the 50-yard free, touching the wall in 24.51. In the 100-yard breaststroke, freshman Lana Baker added a win with a time of 1:06.97.

The Huskers also saw success in the diving well, as NU took the top four spots on the one meter. Senior Jeni Fortino finished second (237.40), while freshman Sheena Kafka (234.95) and Laura Lunn (234.55) finished third and fourth, respectively. Lunn (second, 271.30) and Kafka (third, 248.40) recorded top finishes for NU on the three meter as well.

Freshman Mackenzie Clark took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:26.19 for Nebraska.

A pair of NU relays also produced runner-up finishes, as the 400-yard freestyle relay (Alex King, Matheu, Erickson, Diana Torres) touched the wall in 3:35.75, and the 200-yard medley relay (Erickson, Baker, Matheu, Kate Dulgar) finished the race in 1:49.27.

The Huskers travel to face in-state foe Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 31 in Omaha at 5 p.m.

LINCOLN, Neb., Jan. 19.
